  1. I know it’s a bit early to panic. But in a 60 game season and looking at the White Sox start, yikes. Cubs have been a bit of a surprise. The bullpen however looks to be a problem.

  2. WAND TV posted a letter from Devore imploring the General Assembly to convene and take up the important issues related to COVID. If this happens, he will ask his clients to stay their lawsuits.

If there was ever a throw-away season, let it be this season. Therefore, I am fine.

  5. Some see disruption as an opportunity to give up.

Others see disruption as an opportunity to succeed.

  6. “WAND TV posted a letter from Devore imploring the General Assembly to convene and take up the important issues related to COVID. If this happens, he will ask his clients to stay their lawsuits.”

This would be the right thing to do in my opinion, which means that it likely won’t happen. The ambiguity and confusion is a feature, not a bug (no pun intended).

Oh, a little disappointed so far. Pitching has been atrocious. Eloy needs to know where the wall is. But it could be worse. I know it is a sprint not a marathon this year, but there is time to turn it around. Two or three weeks from now, there won’t.

Then he gets to declare victory and be seen as a hero rather than losing as soon as he faces a different judge.

  9. The IHSA meeting today has the locals in my area in a lather. People crack me up…

  10. I find it interesting the letter DeVore released to WAND this morning. I have to wonder what his motive is behind it. I also wonder from his help wanted ad yesterday how he can become a Constitutional Attorney in a matter of two months? On May 7th he spoke to the Madison County Board and said the following and I quote.
“I’m not a Constitutional Law Person and I tell my clients that, I do real estate bank stuff”. “I can read this stuff if I get the desire.”

His sales pitch is interesting to listen to and after doing some research I found out that bus was a majority of his local clients. I sure hope his rates are good.

  11. The GA by not further amending the emergency powers act showed their legislative intend that the Gov has the authority to issue EO’s upon EO’s. I’m not quite certain how the Supremes could read anything else into the GA’s non action.

  12. With the Cubs bullpen, no lead is safe. So far the bats are cooperating.

It’ll be just my luck that the Cubs will take off on a roll just as COVID starts knocking other teams out and the season will be canceled before the Cubs can hoist another WS piece of metal.

It’s a fun distraction while it lasts. I’m going to enjoy each game.

My biggest takeaways thru 5 games too.

Bats go to sleep, Arms aren’t right now up to the task.

I’m pleasantly surprised, but anxiously worried too.

  14. Still waiting on some explanation from Rep. Darin LaHood why he voted against removing from Congress the statues honoring Confederates and former Supreme Ct. Justice Taney, author of the Dred Scott decision. (hr 7573)

Every other member of the Party of Lincoln from the Land of Lincoln’s congressional delegation voted in favor of removing them. Rodney Davis even gave a speech on the House floor about how strongly he felt on this issue due to his representation of Springfield.

Yet apparently Rep. LaHood was unmoved. Why?

  16. ==The IHSA meeting today has the locals in my area in a lather. People crack me up…==

Although I like following HS sports, I don’t think overall it has the same level of interest statewide, or even locally, that it did 20-40 years ago. Increasing the number of basketball classes from 2 to 4, and football all the way to 8 classes; declining student enrollment statewide; school consolidations and new sport co-ops; frequent conference realignment (and even “conference-hopping” by schools for a year or two before leaving a league); and moving the basketball state tourney out of Champaign in ‘95 to Peoria–then back to Chambana next season (if there is a season) have to me diminished the level of interest in high school sports. If the IHSA does cancel the fall seasons today (which I expect they will), it will be disappointing but definitely understandable and I’ll just move on with my day and keep my mask on and my distance.

I will also go on a limb and lump the crazy sports parents (e.g., the ones that yell at the refs during kindergarten T-ball leagues, the ones going to the school board to try to fire coaches for not playing their precious “little Johnny,” and the ones who think their 4-year old is a pro in the making) with Covidiots.

  19. Having a hard time getting into baseball now. It’s disconcerting to see no fans in the stands. But I realize it’s very important to have our old pastimes back, to recover some sense of normalcy. I see our old lives in hockey games that are aired again from earlier this year, with stadiums full of fans, and proverbially reach out to grasp them, but there’s nothing there.

  20. When the White Sox can get out of the 1st inning without giving up multiple runs, they’re undefeated. But oh man these 1st innings; good grief!

As a little league coach, can confirm. Said it yesterday, but when our season got cancelled, a bunch of parents put their kids straight into travel baseball that played games in all of our surrounding states. And yet, they still think they’re doing the right thing because they live in Chicago and mask up when they’re home. Stupid is as stupid does.

  25. To Bruce at 10:44am: “If they give him the results he wants. Otherwise…” Hmmm. Seems like blackmail, which the ARDC might frown upon. Zealous advocacy is one thing; forcing the legislature in session to stay suits is another. As for censorship, a number of my posts never showed up either, Deputy Dog at 10:20am.

  26. As a Sox fine, I am doing just fine. It could be a lot worse. Could be a Marlin fan, or God forbid, a cub fan. By the way, was that a cardboard cutout of Mr. Bartman down the left field line?

  27. Announced closing of Mercy Hospital on the near south side is big news. Leaves a big void in coverage in that area. Handwriting was on the wall since May when a merger of 4 area hospitals (including Mercy) was nixed.
