Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday told the CEO of Commonwealth Edison she’s “deeply disturbed” by the utility giant’s role in an ongoing federal bribery scandal, and that the company’s response so far has been “inadequate.” […]
“ComEd’s breach of public trust is far from over as far as the City of Chicago is concerned,” Lightfoot wrote. “We expect a significant commitment from the company to right historic wrongs through its own internal ethics reforms[.]”
“I can only imagine the significant impact a $200 million dollar investment of money in the city (versus a fine) would have on improving our neighborhoods, assisting low-income customers, or achieving clean energy goals,” Lightfoot wrote.
Lightfoot, herself a former federal prosecutor, told Dominguez in the letter that the proposed monitoring under that agreement “is not sufficient to rebuild trust and account for this egregious behavior.”

Uh, it’s a little presumptuous to assume the city of Chicago should have gotten the entire 200 million, if it had been invested instead of a fine. There’s a few million people in the suburbs, and the rest of Northern IL, who have a claim. But whatever, she wants to browbeat them while they’re down to negotiate what she can call a “better” deal.

Strong move by Lightfoot.
Worth noting that only Pritzker and Lightfoot among Democratic Party leadership have actually condemned Com Ed for the crimes for which they have admitted.
The Speaker and his leadership team? Nada.

The 200 million would’ve come in handy to rebuild the buildings burned down during the looting sessions. Downtown still looks like a war zone. Yes Mayor Lightfoot that 200 million would have really helped undo the damage you caused by allowing the rampant riots.

To the post,
ComEd will be an easy target for many people, it’s a bonus target for Lightfoot who seemingly never liked ComEd or how they went about their business, pre-Fed agreement.

Does anyone know the alternative to ComEd in the City of Chicago? I know where I live my town can negotiate with an alternative supplier and have the residents use that supplier. As a resident I can opt out and stay with ComEd. Is this the same for Chicago?

The alternative suppliers cost more than ComEd as they can charge whatever they want for delivery per ICC.
Municipalized ComEd would be a boondoggle IMO and more expensive for rate payers.
There is a feasability study due at the end of the month to municipalize comed. We will see.

If the mayor wants to be angry with anyone she needs to start with their partners in crime the Speaker. The Speaker is the one that it appears ignored what was best for the citizens of Illinois and as well as the ones paying the jacked up rates. The Speaker ignored the the people that he was supposed to represent all in the search for more power in his corrupt world as head of the Illinois Democratic Party. He turned his back once again on the have nots for more power and influence with the haves.

Question: If Ms. Lightfoot believes the criminal complaint shows that ComEd breached the public trust, why would she not also thus believe that Mr. Madigan breached the public trust?

@Radio Flyer the DPA is with ComEd who admitted guilt. Madigan has not been charged nor admitted guilt.

200 million can always come in handy but why should they go to buildings already covered by insurance? That would be dumb.

What crime did they partner up to commit? No one else has this information, how do you have this information? Shouldn’t you call the police? Or are you just mudslinging without any basis in fact?
