* Press release

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,532 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 19 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 168,457 cases, including 7,385 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 44,330 specimens for a total of 2,432,523. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 17 –July 23 is 3.4%. As of last night, 1,471 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 325 patients were in the ICU and 115 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.

  1. Its not a matter of if we get sent back to Phase 2 or 3, but when.

  2. We’re all going to have to shelter in place again, right? And close everything and not come out until January.

  3. “Its not a matter of if we get sent back to Phase 2 or 3, but when.” My over/under was the end of July. Looks like I’ll lose that bet, but not be all that much.

  4. ===but when===

    You’re not keeping up. There will be a more targeted approach.

  5. The goal behind the earlier phases was to not only get case counts down in the initial hot spots, but to keep other areas from turning into the next hot spot. It looks like our efforts were mixed in that regard. The targeted approach, focusing on those areas that are at a warning level, now makes sense.

    The lesson continues to be that you can’t simply ignore the virus or pretend that your community is somehow different. It does not work.

  6. === But I bet BLM riots will be okay still. But if I protest the lock down that is now okay I guess.===

    Do you support Black Lives Matter, why or why not?

    We had an “open the state” rally in Oswego.

    No one stopped it.

    Be a victim on Facebook, it’s more on brand there.

  7. Remember that we are divided into multiple zones now. Individual zones can be moved back without affecting the others. Most cases (as has always been the case) are north of I-80

  8. Now that the stores are forcing people to wear a mask, it might help.

  9. In a strange way, Trump is right. We are doing too much testing. We are collecting more samples than we can quickly process. We could limit sample collection to the number we can process in 2 days. That would give us useful information.

    In no way do I think Trump understands this.

    The scary thing to me is how many people can be infected when the situation favors the virus.

  10. =We all knew they would send us back just to keep the citizens under the Gov’s thumb.=
    Omg, TOTALLY. You just know Pritzker took office thinking, how can I get the citizens of this state under my thumb? How can I shut down businesses? How can I disrupt schools? How can I take away their freedoms? And then when the pandemic hit, he saw his golden opportunity.
    Seriously, dude.
    And yes, we all need to vote - to cancel out your vote and those of people like you.

  11. When the government passes a mask mandate but won’t seriously enforce it, leaving the stores to do it, grandmothers get terrorized: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/07/18/covid-pandemic-store-clerk-north-carolina/?arc404=true

  12. Wear a mask. Not hard.

  13. ==Even though there is no evidence to close schools==

    I honestly, truly have no idea what this sentence means, and I’m pretty sure The Dust doesn’t either.
