The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,018 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 20 additional confirmed deaths.
- Cook County: 1 male 40s, 1 female 60s, 2 males 60s, 3 males 70s, 4 females 80s, 1 male 80s, 1 male 90s
- DuPage County: 1 male 60s, 1 female 70s
- Kane County: 1 female 90s
- Kendall County: 1 male 50s
- McLean County: 1 female 80s
- Out of State: 1 female 50s
- St. Clair County: 1 female 90sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 150,450 cases, including 7,119 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 36,180 specimens for a total of 1,878,756. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 2 –July 8 is 2.6%. As of last night, 1,507 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 317 patients were in the ICU and 153 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.
There were 1,326 COVID-19 patients in the hospital on July 4. Cases are going up, hospitalizations are going up. 7-day positivity rate is still fairly steady, however.

This is just my personal interpretation and hope - not as an insider or even as a Superintendent.
If the guidelines in place from @IHSA_IL are in place for all of Phase 4 - we should flip football and soccer to the Spring and move track, base/soft ball to the Fall

At least 26 legislators and 10 others who work at Mississippi’s Capitol have tested positive for the coronavirus, a public health official said Wednesday, as the governor implored residents to take precautions amid a rapid rise in confirmed cases statewide.
The 174-member Legislature ended its annual session July 1, and many people in the Capitol did not wear masks or maintain distance between themselves and others during the last few weeks. Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and House Speaker Philip Gunn are among those who publicly acknowledge testing positive for COVID-19. They are now quarantined at home.
The number of people infected at the Capitol could actually be higher. The reported number only reflects those who were tested recently in Jackson, said the state’s top public health official, Dr. Thomas Dobbs. Some legislators have also been tested since returning to their hometowns.

The positivity rate for this batch is I think around ~2.8 versus around ~3 yesterday. The 7 day average is still keeping steady.
But the fact that we seem steady or only slightly upwards is starting to feel like a negative to me versus lower positivity rates in places like New York. I’d rather us take more precautions now like closing indoor bar service again than waiting.

I wish IDPH would start making it easy to see where case #s seem to be trending among its under 20 and 20-29 age categories. If it’s really a four-to-six-week cycle - two weeks for younger socialites to catch covid, then two-four weeks more for them to keep spreading it around - that would be useful intel to see in real time.

McLean County is seeing an increase in positive cases since July 1.261 positive cases on July 1 has increased to 299. Sadly, most of them are from people traveling out-of-state and visiting locales that are currently experiencing surges in cases. Largest number of cases are among those in their 20’s–almost 80 looking at the charts. Sort of like, “Hey Illinois is too strict so let’s go to Florida and stop wearing masks, social distancing, etc. Party like it is 2019.”

The Governor and the Mayor are going to have to tell the truth and admit the protests and riots set us back. No one is taking them seriously outside of Chicago because they told us we the rules don’t matter. Chicago ignites 3-4 weeks after protests and they refuse to admit why.
The Governor needs to man up and admit he is not allowing fall sports so parents can make decisions for their kids. He is slow rolling this to try and hold off the biggest mass exodus of working class people in IL history.

It would be self-evident if the data was there to support it. That doesn’t seem to be the case.
I’m sure that the governor would “allow” fall sports if there were assurances from the virus that it was willing to cooperate. Those are hard to come by. Let the HS football exodus begin. Maybe the kids can catch on with a team in TX. The sport is huge there.

It’s very unclear at this juncture whether or not IL is rising, if the (younger) people currently catching it are disproportionately less likely to be in the testing universe.

The positivity rate does not really tell you whether or not the epidemic is growing again.
The positivity rate only tells you if you have adequate access to testing, WHO says it should be under 5 percent.
We have enough tests, and the tests tell us the infection rate has increased.
Yesterday could have been an anomaly. Today is a developing pattern.

A lot of student leases started July 1 so you are also seeing the annual influx of college students returning to town.
The apartment complexes around campus have been pretty much non-stop parties.

Cross Country could be moved to the spring. Might be better running weather then, although could be too wet at times.
Have heard volleyball would also move to spring.
Seems like golf is a very good social distance sport, with tennis not far behind. Boys and girls tennis plays in opposite seasons due to court availability.

Indeed. Take Kankakee County, where mask compliance is poor and government told businesses to just reopen. Eight cases Tuesday, sixteen yesterday, and 32 today.

It is too late to swap sports with many northern IL districts starting in about 5 weeks. It is more than just flipping a switch. Such a suggestion shows a lack of knowledge about how high schools and their extracurricular sports programs work. It is dismaying that we are considering sending amateur, student, high school football players into an environment that could significantly expose them to the virus. When you are the running back on the bottom of rhebpile after being tackled, and everyone is breathing on you, there is no protection.

Maddow had video from the MS legislature last night. No mask no distancing staff and members moving about……close contact inside for hours a day.

tea_and_honey: No doubt the 4th of July partiers at The Willows and other complexes around the Illinois State campus and elsewhere will start to be tested next week. I expect the positive rate will will be quite a surge.

Will you be leaving?
I am a high school coach and I can state that my fall sport or any sport is not a priority when it comes to this virus. It sure appears as if sports will not be allowed if that is what he is going to do just tell us.
