Although yesterday around noon parts of Springfield, including the Capitol and much of the north side, enjoyed a brief break from the heat when a downpour popped up over the center of the city. It rained about 20-30 minutes in the Capitol Complex.
No rain on south sides of the city (including Prairie Crossing) plus in Chatham. (Chatham had its own deluge around 6PM Monday evening with about an inch of rain in less than an hour).

Equally hot up here in NW burbs. I see a lot of road and other infrastructure projects going on, with laborers busting their backs in this heat. God bless and protect them.

Slight risk for severe weather today in Illinois roughly from I-72 northward. With all forms of severe possible including some tornadoes, especially in northwestern Illinois into Iowa and Wisconsin.

Here in Springpatch the heat wave in suppose to break some tomorrow with highs only in the high 80s over the weekend with the return to 90s next week.

Here in Streator, in southern LaSalle County, the only things moving outside are gila monsters and rattlesnakes. /s

I don’t know, it’s pretty darn bad out there - I wouldn’t be surprised if the heat index wasn’t in triple digits already. I was out clearing some brush and doing cleanup since early morning, and I had to knock off about 45 minutes ago. High humidity makes it hard to breathe, and there wasn’t even a bit of a breeze. I was so sweaty that I looked like I had jumped in a pool with my clothes on

On an unrelated note, this is a great idea if you’re a White Sox fan (or even if you’re not). Korean and European soccer clubs have been doing this, I’m glad to see MLB teams get in on it. Proceeds go to charity:

@HotAir - This stretch of heat for central Illinois is above what would be considered normal but not a typical for a summer. In CIL we can go all June, July and August without a day above 90 or we can string together a week or more of 90+.
In 2012 we combined excessive heat with very dry conditions. So far this isn’t 2012. So far…

Wonder if it’s heating up in Clay County since the Governor filed his appeal? I’m sure the heat index is off the charts at the Court House since our #1 Judge is being questioned. Now back to the weather.

Same here. There must be about 20 or so on my plants that weren’t there last week. And to think, before the pandemic, we didn’t even have a garden

Severe thunderstorm watch just issued until 11PM from basically Galesburg-Peoria-Woodford County northward to south central Wisconsin. Includes Rockford but interestingly not LaSalle or DeKalb at this time. Chicago and suburbs not (yet) inclded in watch. STorms heading eastward from eastern Iowa:
