The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 587 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 37 additional confirmed deaths.
- Cook County: 2 females 50s, 2 females 60s, 4 males 60s, 4 males 70s, 3 females 80s, 2 males 80s, 1 unknown 80s, 2 males 90s, 1 unknown 90s
- DuPage County: 1 female 80s, 1 male 80s
- Kane County: 1 female 70s
- Kendall County: 1 female 90s
- Lake County: 1 female 60s, 1 female 90s
- Madison County: 1 female 70s
- McHenry County: 1 male 60s
- Peoria County: 1 female 70s
- Rock Island County: 1 female 90s
- Sangamon County: 1 female 90s
- St. Clair County: 1 female 50s
- Stephenson County: 1 male 80s
- Will County: 1 male 60s, 1 female 80s
- Winnebago County: 1 male 90sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 148,452 cases, including 7,063 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 26,994 specimens for a total of 1,809,834. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from June 20 –July 6 is 2.5%. As of last night, 1,385 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 320 patients were in the ICU and 153 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is now reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website. Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions. IDPH will update these data once a week.
Ever so slight downtick on the positivity rate. Hospitalizations are still stabilized.

I saw many Florida hospitals have completely full ICU’s today. I’ve never been more grateful to live in Illinois.

I thought I read the other day that due to death rates dropping that the cdc was close to ending the ‘pandemic’ status. Was this correct?

Some hospitals in Texas may be hitting capacity soon. Hospitalization rates are growing in many states. Early reopening has been a great and needless failure.

BDD relax. Your leader says 99.9% of the cases are harmless, so what difference does it make if death rates are dropping or what the cdc says? Pandemic no pandemic, it doesn’t matter.

I have been told that a lot of the ICU usage is due to elective surgeries being conducted and not for covid patients. Since the hospitals are working through a huge backlog of surgeries due to the lockdown more ICU beds are being used now than in a typical period. Has anyone done the breakdown to determine how many ICU beds are Specifically covid related?

The IDPH website specifies that these numbers are for COVID-19 patients. See:

If you have evidence the IDPH is making false representations so as to inflate the number, please detail the source of your information.

Interesting that Jasper County, that was considered an “epicenter” in April/May, had only one new positive case in all of June.

Oh we’re at all 102 counties in this state? But then again the direction of this virus is going in the right direction so I’m not as concerned now. I’m still taking my precautions as everyone should.

Downstate–next door to Jasper, in Effingham County, there were 12 cases until…last week another 5 were reported. Yesterday, an additional 5. They aren’t in a nursing home.

That’s kind of what we’re seeing all across the country, areas that fared well in the beginning are struggling now. I mean California was widely hailed for handling the epidemic well and is now one of the main hotspots.

Downstate, I grew up in Cumberland County, just north of Jasper County.
My suspicion is that there’s a lot of Covid-19 circulating down there, but people are either asymptomatic or with such low level of infection that they’re assuming they have a cold, allergies, or a minor flu.
I wouldn’t assume that no testing = no Covid-19.

I will be totally ecstatic if I am wrong. I am predicting that by the beginning to mid August, Illinois will be just like California is today.

While I’m not sure what the specific point of this statement is, according to the IDPH non-COVID ICU bed use is at its highest point in months over the past week so it doesn’t seem crazy to look at those numbers when assessing current hospitalizations in various states.
