  1. It was tough news to learn White Sox players tested positive for Covid-19 along with other ball clubs finding positive results.

As Illinois is doing better than most of the country right now, it was tough hearing that news.

    How can sports come back?

  2. Should Chicago supplement its administrative support staff with ARNG members (Soldiers can provide support services, but have no arrest powers) so that more sworn officers are available to provide community policing? [see Atlanta]-

CHICAGO — One of Chicago’s bloodiest holiday weekends in memory ended with 17 people fatally shot, including a 7-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, and 70 more wounded, despite a concerted effort to quell the violence with an additional 1,200 police officers on the streets.

ATLANTA – Georgia’s governor on Monday declared a state of emergency and authorized the activation of up to 1,000 National Guard troops after a weekend of violence in Atlanta left five people dead, including an 8-year-old girl.

  3. I’ve never been particularly optimistic about the return of sports, baseball or otherwise. Kris Bryant was particularly critical of MLB’s inability to execute on delivering PPE. I suppose they aren’t immune to the same challenges other businesses are facing in that regard. The player’s seem to becoming increasingly pessimistic about playing. The Nationals and other teams cancelled workouts yesterday do to delays in getting test results due to lag times. And player contact in baseball isn’t nearly what it is in football or basketball.

  4. “How can sports come back?”

We are wallowing in all kinds of denial if we think there will be major sports, outside of NASCAR, this year.

  5. Seems the Edgar County Watchdogs and DeVore are all upset with IL Rep. Diane Pappas cause she told her constituents the Clay County ruling only applies to Clay County not Cook or Dupage County. She stated other Judges including a Supreme Court Judge has issued rulings agreeing with the Governor and just because one Judge in Clay County doesn’t it’s not for the whole State. Talk about throwing gas on the fire. They are breaking out chapter and verse trying to prove her wrong.

  6. “How can sports come back?”

“Sports is the reward for a functioning society and we’re just trying to bring it back even though we’ve taken none of the steps to flatten the curve … We just can’t just have virus-fatigue and think: ‘It’s been four months, we’re over it. It’s been enough time. We’ve waited long enough. Shouldn’t sports come back now?’ No, there are things we have to do in order to bring this stuff back.” — Sean Robert Doolittle, Washington Nationals pitcher

  7. when the MLB falls apart at least we will have that Rosemont team named after a hot dog to watch. 20% capacity at a 6,000 stadium, thats a lucky 1200 bunch of folks who get to watch some good unaffiliated ball.

  8. === “Sports is the reward for a functioning society and we’re just trying to bring it back even though we’ve taken none of the steps to flatten the curve …===

    This quote is everything.

This is the best quote to sports as my question, “rhetorical” in delivery, is smacked hard down the third base line, into the outfield and the corner.

Great grab - @misterjayem -, that’s the ball game, no pun intended.

  10. The quote from Sean Doolittle absolutely made my day. Other forms of entertainment and arts are also “rewards for a functioning society.” Heck, better-than-utility hair cuts and food are rewards, not necessities or rights.

    Thanks for bringing that quote.

  11. A lot of people in the Bloc are angry this week because “the governor sent IDNR into Bailey’s and Miller’s districts” to check on all the permits and other requirements for towns that were having fireworks. They even measured how far back the crowds were from the fireworks and *gasp* made some of them move farther away. The horror.

  12. Still Waiting,

I’d love to see what happens when DNR starts checking fishing and boating licenses.

“It’s another Pritzker power grab (multiple banned punctuations). The gubmint is taking away our freedoms (multiple banned punctuations).”

  13. I did it to myself..for 4 hours last night I went through the entire list of illinois businesses that received over $1 million in PPE. I am sick to my stomach. I know of 7 businesses on that list list who have not suffered a bit during these times. Conversely, they have flourished.
Greed is what is wrong with this country.

BTW. Was it my imagination or did I see Clay County on that list.

  15. 96th Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) will now have two opponents in the Nov. 3 general election. Republican Charles McGorray of Decatur, and John Keating II of Springfield:

  16. ==I’ve never been particularly optimistic about the return of sports, baseball or otherwise.==

I’ve said it many times on here and will say it again. I would forget about regular college/professional sports in person this year. Let the gamers (e.g., Madden NFL games) and simulated sports run the season this year.

  17. Has there been any news about Pritzker appealing the Bailey case?
