The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 828 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 30 additional confirmed deaths.
Cook County: 1 female 40s, 1 male 40s, 1 male 50s, 1 male 60s, 3 females 70s, 3 males 70s, 3 female 80s, 2 females 90s, 1 male 90s
DuPage 1 male 40s, 1 female 90s
Kane County: 1 male 60s, 2 females 80s
Lake County: 1 female 50s, 1 female 60s, 1 female 80s
Madison County: 1 male 70s
Sangamon County: 1 female 70s
St. Clair County: 1 female 80s
Will County: 1 female 60s
Winnebago County: 1 male 60s, 1 male 80sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 144,013cases, including 6,951 deaths, in 101 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 33,090 specimens for a total of 1,636,055. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from June 24 –June 30 is 2.6%.

In Illinois, total reported fatalities climbed from 5,548 to 7,124 in June, a hike of 28.4 percent. But in California, the jump was from 4,287 to 6,081, up 41.8 percent. In Texas it was up 46 percent, with 2,496 deaths as of yesterday. And in Florida, up 42.4 percent, with 3,505 fatalities to date.
All of them are pikers compared to Arizona. Total pandemic fatalities there to date soared 78 percent last month, to 1,632 from 917.
Those are deaths, folks. As in permanent removal from this good earth. Not just sniffles from the flu.
Those fatality numbers continue to get worse in a rush. Florida reported 49 new deaths today, and Arizona 88. Texas added 59 deaths yesterday.
Arizona’s positivity rate today was 24 percent. Texas has a 7-day average rate of 14.6 percent. Florida’s average is 16.1 percent. You can click here to look up more states.

I think this is the best we can do. Only improvement would be N95 masks for everyone. Don’t know why that isn’t a goal. At this rate, we will have 200,00 deaths by election day. More if the 2nd wave kicks in by then.The disease will get its herd immunity level of 60% exposure. It wont stop. Spreads like the flu and we can’t stop that. Hot weather wasn’t the wall. We have the highest population of a mammal in earths history. Nature has struck back. Vaccine is the only hope. If one will work ? Wont be eating out until I get the shot.

Illinois has had a substantial increase in testing relative to spiking states like Texas and Florida. Still, we can’t get lower than the 700-800 new daily infections range.

The hospitalization, ICU and ventilator numbers continue to be very encouraging. The positive test rate is 2.6 percent which is also very good. The new case counts are going in the wrong direction, true, but fewer people are dying in Illinois and that’s very good.
So I’m a bit hopeful but keep my fingers crossed.

That’s due to the added tests. Positivity rate, hospitalizations are a better gauge.

The people who are not wearing masks are, I’m guessing, taking cues from the POTUS. He’s the one who needs to act.

The mayor of Savannah, Georgia is implementing a mandatory mask ordinance. The ordinance covers all businesses, government offices, parks, and public right of ways except for churches. There is also an exception for while you are eating or drinking in a restaurant or if you are in a space where you can distance more than six feet … so the middle of a park, but not a sidewalk.
Anyone not wearing a mask will be offered a mask by police officers. Anyone who still refuses to wear a mask will be fined $500.
Chicago and Illinois should have done this in May.
if we grade our elected officials by comparing them to how Trump is doing, we are all doomed.

Donald Trump needs to speak up about wearing masks and social distancing. If he doesn’t 35% of our population, his true believers, are going to continue with no regard for anyone.
If he doesn’t do it now and loses election, then Biden does it, you haven’t even begun to see lawsuits.

While you’re obviously right, when JB made an offhand reference to possibly enforcing his order at non compliant businesses with a fine, there was widespread outrage from both parties. There just isn’t a collective will to do anything in this country to help people

Unfortunately I’m a CTA rider. 4-5 days a week. Mask wearing is about 70%. People should not be allowed on board buses and trains without masks on. This should be a no-brainer. I’m also seeing plenty of folks in these enclosed spaces with masks around their necks or covering their mouths but not noses. At the very very least there needs to be a wider and stronger PSA campaign on this issue.

If the u of I can do 10,000 spit tests in a day, why isnt this technology available statewide?

With no professional sports going on, Chicago has a lot of professional athletes out of work. Most of them are big, strong, fairly young guys, and some of them are pretty handy with a baseball bat or a hockey stick. Maybe we could get some of them to ride the CTA and Metra and encourage others to wear masks through a combination of setting a positive example, contributing their “star power”, engaging in some friendly physical intimidation, and as a final resort, whacking some folks upside the head.

That is a terrific idea. We can incentive these athletes to participate by giving a small discount on their CTA and Metra fares.
