Public Health Officials Announce 715 New Confirmed Cases of Coronavirus Disease
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 715 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 64 additional confirmed deaths.
- Cook County: 1 male 30s, 1 male 40s, 2 females 50s, 2 males 50s, 9 females 60s, 6 males 60s, 5 females 70s, 5 males 70s, 3 females 80s, 1 male 80s, 4 females 90s
- DuPage County: 1 female 50s, 1 male 60s, 1 male 70s
- Grundy County: 1 female 80s
- Jackson County: 1 female 90s
- Kane County: 1 female 80s, 1 male 90s
- Lake County: 1 male 70s, 1 female 80s, 1 male 80s, 1 female 90s
- Madison County: 1 female 90s
- McHenry County: 1 female 70s
- Peoria County: 1 female 80s
- St. Clair County: 2 males 70s, 1 female 90s
- Will County: 1 female 60s, 1 female 70s, 1 female 80s
- Winnebago County: 1 male 60s, 2 females 70s, 1 male 70s, 1 female 80sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 138,540 cases, including 6,770 deaths, in 101 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 29,331 specimens for a total of 1,428,841. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from June 17–June 23 is 3%.
Hospitalizations and ICU usage continues to decline.

I continue to be impressed by the successes we’ve had as a state in our response to COVID-19, even with the Covidiots. I just can’t let optimism win me over because I am certainly not the only person involved with this blog that knows someone who is still planning their family vacation to Florida.

Today Florida is reporting an explosion of new infections and a new daily record: over 5,500. Texas and Arizona have also set records.
New York coronavirus cases have been way down. Gov. Cuomo and two other regional governors announced a travel advisory requiring a 14-day quarantine period for travelers coming from states that are COVID-19 hotspots, including Arizona, Texas and Florida. Gives a new perspective to a popular Trump campaign chant: build the wall.

I’m a worry wort - I realize it’s trivial compared to the early-open states, but it seems we’ve been in the 600’s for new cases for a while now - hope this is just a “normal fluctuation.” I’d be fine with a weaker version of what Washington state did today and making it a misdemeanor not to wear a mask indoors (with exceptions for things like bars/restaurants/health clubs).

I was ridiculed today for refusing to attend an in person NGO board meeting at a local establishment.
Two of the board members that I was expected to sit across the table from had just returned Sunday from week long vacation in a FL hot spot.
The establishment where it is to be held has not honored a single Phase 3 guideline and has taken great pride in not doing so.
Yet, I am the one being labeled as difficult and deranged?

Agree about the concern and believe many more people need to stress safety. We worked so hard just to get here, to have major setbacks.

Do not count on a baseball season. Too many states are blowing up with the virus. Ball player goes to New York and has to be quarantined?
Also I bet NBA is not happy about Florida numbers

I’m not optimistic that we’ll see professional contact sports for the balance of the year and I would include football in that analysis. Too many states have adopted a herd immunity approach and that will only cause the number of cases to rise. The NBA suspended their season after a single positive test and are certainly going to increased cases if they resume in Florida. Baseball we’ll have to contend with any number of states spiking and the potential risk for players will likely outweigh the benefits of playing a truncated season.

Pundent, I seem to recall news stories over the last week -10 days about 20+ college football players (Clemson or LSU) and some professional baseball players testing positive for Covid-19.
I’ve been missing my Cubbies. I’ve been missing watching them play on a big screen at a local tavern, with something of limited nutritional value from the bar’s kitchen in front of me. Doesn’t mean I want to put the team and their support staff at risk.

GregN, positivity rate actually dropped from yesterday, IL just reported 29K vs. 20K yesterday.
