During the covid crisis, I felt Gov JB was totally justified and correct in demanding an action plan, guidance and resources from Fed Gov’t and (as a GOPer) I supported and joined in his critique of the federal response. But now, as our locals need state assistance, I hope Gov applies that same critique to his response to the looting. A greater use of the resources available to him for the locals is totally necessary and needed. More ISP call-ups, DOC riot teams, cadet classes and national guard for local cities could all make a huge difference. It’s crystal clear now that the looting is now an organized effort, mass application of resources needs to be considered. The locals just can’t do it on their own.

Incredible that just a short week ago the big controversy was about how tyrannical it was for Pritzker to suggest ticketing business owners who defied his lawful executive order. And now across the country cops are shooting, gassing, and arresting peaceful protestors for not dispersing 30 minutes before a curfew

Is the looting and destruction of property one of the unintended consequences of shutting down the country because of coronavirus? I understand the protests over the Floyd killing, but the violence has been breathtaking.

Maybe I am missing something ” a greater use of resources available to him” does not in my opinion equate to “excessive force”

I think partially but only partially. I think the kid gloved treatment of the armed shutdown protestors provided a compare and contrast moment, too. Add that to the shooting and looting style tweets (looters can read too and we are all connected 24/7). Also the fact that some populations were more likely to die from the virus and the response of others was well those people’s lives were just the price that had to be paid for society to get on with things.
Perfect storm and no way out without violating people’s rights (if the right to religion is absolute then so are all the others). There are a lot more angry people than there are police.
