Skillicorn tells reporters with a straight face that he would “prefer to avoid” media coverage

Posted in:

* Hilarious

An Illinois lawmaker dissatisfied with Gov. JB Pritzker’s handling of the large number of COVID-19-related unemployment claims is calling on his colleagues to support an effort to remove the governor from office.

Republican Rep. Allen Skillicorn, of Crystal Lake, said lack of staffing at the Illinois Department of Employment Security and its website’s disclosure of sensitive information is evidence of Pritzker’s “continued inaction.”

After issuing a news release notifying residents of his initiative, Skillicorn told reporters in a video news conference Tuesday he “would actually prefer to avoid coverage.”

“This is a nonpartisan issue. This is about the people of Illinois,” he said. “This is not my voice, it’s the voice of over 1 million people in Illinois that are now unemployed. … It’s not about me. It’s not about my party.”

Narrator: “It’s about him.”

* Reminder of the constitutional requirements

The recall of the Governor may be proposed by a petition signed by a number of electors equal in number to at least 15% of the total votes cast for Governor in the preceding gubernatorial election, with at least 100 signatures from each of at least 25 separate counties. A petition shall have been signed by the petitioning electors not more than 150 days after an affidavit has been filed with the State Board of Elections providing notice of intent to circulate a petition to recall the Governor. The affidavit may be filed no sooner than 6 months after the beginning of the Governor’s term of office. The affidavit shall have been signed by the proponent of the recall petition, at least 20 members of the House of Representatives, and at least 10 members of the Senate, with no more than half of the signatures of members of each chamber from the same established political party.

  1. Bailey knows there is ZERO chance of a recall ever happening; he’s simply running for re-election with his games. His false modesty is almost nauseating.

  2. So all voter signatures collected prior to 30 members of the General Assembly signing such an affidavit are voided?

Comment by Cornfield Cowboy Wednesday, May 27, 20 @ 9:46 am

  3. …in other words the State of Illinois really doesn’t have a recall provision in law. Has Skilli lined up the 10 Democratic State Reps and 5 State Senators that will sign this recall?

  4. What is it about legislators from McHenry County? They’re either work horses or showmen.

  5. Skillcorn is the worst kind of elected official. He is fomenting discontent by pulling this move. He knows there is no possible way this will succeed. He will get the signatures, or at least try to, when his efforts fail, he will wave the bloody glove and say, it’s the system. He will then feed off the ruins of the anger.

    He is the worst.

  9. It’s indeed about him, only him, and the Hateful Eight.

When you consider the wheels that need to be in motion to even get this idea outside the empty head of Skillicorn… the benchmarks and thresholds to get to “possible”.., I’m more likely to be caddying at Augusta National in November’s Masters than this being possible.

Let’s remember … not only is it about him, he loves it being about him, as Bailey plays “Inherit The Wind” in southern Illinois, and the other Hateful Eight talk of things outside the health of the people of Illinois.

This is a time for serous people who lead…

This is a time Mr. Skillicorn should spend in his couch watching “Red Dawn”

But then, he has so much to be humble about.

  13. If I’m reading this correctly, the lady down the street at the Subway collecting signatures is doing so in vain, right? They need the electeds to sign off on this first?

  14. Maybe he can keep a straight face. I can’t. Laughing emoji inserted here.

  15. === Key people in the ILGOP don’t care about the future of the party or have surrendered to extremist elements.===

With respect, Leader Durkin confronted extremism, not from press release or Zoom call… he was in their face.

There’s lots to bemoan the ILGOP, heaven knows I’ve bemoaned “some” myself, but Skillicorn and the Hateful Eight are trying, at times of their choosing to force the super-super minority thoughts… and they still are a super-super minority.

    Also… different aside…

With Illinois being the first and lone state to meet the 5 criteria… tough to recall a governor who’s leading the way in a global pandemic… besides the lunacy that it won’t ever happen… unless I get a Masters loop in November, lol

  18. I thought Pritzker’s response to Skillicorn’s call for his recall was really funny when he didn’t give Skillicorn the satisfaction of having his name uttered in public.

Like indifferently brushing an insect away.

Comment by Glenn Wednesday, May 27, 20 @ 10:12 am

  19. You would think someone with a name as silly as Skillicorn wouldn’t actually relish in seeing it printed.

He shall forever be known as the Silly Skilli from liddle Illi.

  20. The fundamental issue facing the IL-GOP is their desperate need to reign in their most cuckoo-bananas element.

The Republicans simply cannot accrue political power in Springfield without winning in Chicago’s suburbs. And suburbanites, for the most part, find these disingenuous, howling yahoos repellant if not repulsive.

As someone who believes that Illinois would benefit from two functioning political parties, I hope that IL-GOP leadership recognizes the need to minimize and marginalize their braying caucus.

Your comments lead to the phrase- yeah, that’s not how this works.
You don’t get to make outlandish statements then just say you don’t want media coverage. To let you know when elected officials speak the media reports it and follow up on it.

Comment by Proud Papa Bear Wednesday, May 27, 20 @ 10:39 am

  26. @misterjayem is absolutely spot on. It would be great to have two relevant functioning parties in Illinois.

Skilletcorn wants to recall the only governor in the country to meet the GOP presidents conditions for reopening.

  28. The hateful 8 want a gubernatorial recall over the failure of an antique IDES computer system that crashed and an overwhelmed IDES during an unexpected pandemic hit the global economy.

When the virus first appeared in late December or early January, even if Pritzker had the ESP to see 4 months into the future, there wouldn’t have been enough time to build a computer system resilient enough for what occurred. The procurement process alone would have taken months. It was only through the disaster declarations and the EOs as Pritzker able to patch something together so quickly.

The hateful 8 want a recall over a crashed antique IDES computer system and overwhelmed IDES. Not a recall over the handling of the crisis. Not the stay at home orders. Not shutting down non-essential businesses. Not shutting down the economy of the State.

They want a recall over a crashed computer system and an overwhelmed IDES.

What were the hateful 8 doing in the months leading up to the middle of March? What were they doing to ameliorate the coming disaster?

Don’t bother knocking on my door with this petition.

    Right!

  35. =The hateful 8 want a gubernatorial recall over the failure of an antique IDES computer system that crashed and an overwhelmed IDES during an unexpected pandemic hit the global economy.=

You’re giving them far too much credit. They don’t care about IDES or their recipients. Pritzker covered their hypocrisy on the topic quite well yesterday so I won’t. These actions are nothing more than stunts to garner attention. There is no leadership here or any sort of governing strategy. This isn’t about rebuilding a party as much as it a feeble attempt at relevance.

  37. The Hateful Eight need a grievance to gin up their super-super minority, or… the Hateful Eight need to be an alleged aggrieved party to the ridiculousness that is grandstanding.

They ain’t bright to politics, they are least common denominator types… thus why they are a super-super minority.

  38. you can tell the Showhorses in the GA, because they have the time and energy for this stuff right now.

Comment by Eww David Wednesday, May 27, 20 @ 2:54 pm

  39. === Showhorses in the GA===

    With great respect,

The Hateful Eight aren’t show horses, they are those showing the world who they are, in hopes others like minded will create a loud enough super-super minority to stay relevant.

When show horses in the GA realize “leading” (allegedly leading) popular things is good politics.

When the Hateful Eight choose to be aggrieved parties.. or gin up grievances, they are already knowingly pandering to a super-super minority.

    Stay well.

  42. “you can tell the Showhorses in the GA”

Please do not besmirch show horses. My daughter owned a legendary arabian show horse. The eastern bloc can’t hold a candle to the intelligence, work and training a show horse undergoes to get ready for a show.

The Budweiser Clydesdales are legendary, and most well known show horses.

The eastern bloc aren’t even poseurs. They are a never was wanna be.
