I’m tired of listening to old games on KMOX at night. Can someone, anyone just make baseball happen again. Hard to grill and enjoy my Summer Shandy when I already know the game result.

Jim Miller from Hawthorne tweeted that racing will return there next week. I assume it will be spectator-less with fans and bettors watching and wagering online, which is how many people watched and wagered before COVID-19 anyway.

Rich, you might want to explore this topic more closely in another thread today. However, last week’s anti-lockdown protests in Springfield is leading two city alderman to charge that inequity exists in citations and arrests for social distancing and large crowd-related violations between the nearly all white GA protesters last Wednesday, and large crowds being forced to disperse this past weekend on the city’s predominantly African-American East Side:

As I posted in my 9:24AM thread, the allegations of double racial standards in COVID-19-related citations have also been reported in Chicago. A “Block Club Chicago” article is reporting that most of these citations have been occurring in the city’s south and west sides, while downtown protests and Millenium Park large crowds have been mostly ignored.

When certain groups complain about “racially biased” or “racially motivated” arrests and citations, they might want to check their race card at the door, when the shootings, stabbings, and other problems are happening at the certain group’s gatherings. But those are facts they choose not to see.
In other news, it hasn’t rained in over a day, and the humidity in my basement is now less than tropical-level.

Not according to the Sangamon County Clerk’s precinct map. Curve Inn actually does fall within Springfield city limits, at least under Capital Township (which mostly approximates Springfield city limits). Curve Inn is on the northwest corner of St. Joseph Street and the “6th Street Road” (aka old-old 66). It falls within Capitol township precinct 93, as does McDonald’s and United Community Bank next door.
Meanwhile, Arby’s across the street actually falls within Southern View Village limits (and thus the County), as does Route 66 Hotel.

Then again, my head spins trying to figure out the parts of Springfield that is or isn’t within the city limits. Or are actually parts of Southern View, Jerome, or are unincorporated. In fact, I always refer to the Walmart on South 6th (Lejune Drive) as “Walmart in Southern View.” Even though it is actually part of Springfield city limits.
In fact, I pretty much call everything south of Stanford along 6th as “Southern View” even all the way to interstate. Even though parts of it are either unincorporated or part of Springfield.
And count me among those people that don’t understand why Chatham didn’t annex what’s now Piper Glen when they had the chance before Springfield did. When Del McCord retired as Chatham Village Manager in 2015, he expressed one of his biggest disappointments as not annexing Piper Glen:

“•One of the bigger disappointments during McCord’s tenure was during the 1990s and what happened with Piper Glen, which with its location seemed naturally to be annexed into the Village.
“It was a big disappointment in that it made no sense connectivity-wise for that to go to Springfield, providing fire, police and getting transportation links,” McCord stated. “You can’t make any transportation links - there’s a lake there.
“The developer (John Klemm), he was a Springfield guy and wanted to go to Springfield,” McCord continued. “They worked a deal with CWLP prior to us even knowing about it. They were going to let them pump raw water out of Lake Springfield to use for the golf course. We couldn’t match that, we had nothing to match it with. Those deals were made before the mayor and I even had a chance to talk.”
Piper Glen was given Chatham prefix (483) phone numbers, but the postal address was able to be changed to Springfield after having to go through a Chicago office to get it done, McCord added. “

Anyone hearing about child care providers having difficulty meeting the new requirements in order to open next week? It’s been an issue for many of our staff during the past few weeks. We had 2 large child care centers choose to close during stay at home order rather than try to meet the requirements to serve essential workers. Even though centers are opening next week, we still have employees reporting problems with locating child care. I’m not certain if it’s fear on the part of staff, if capacity is an issue or a combination of both in our community.

Two weeks ago my friend posted he tested positive for COVID. I messaged him last week and haven’t heard back.
He’s a good man. A NAVY vet. He was instrumental in developing me as a leader.
He’s survived strokes and heart attacks. I’m really worried this will take him.

Marcus Stroman of the Mets isn’t too optimistic about baseball returning this season after MLB’s proposal to the players’ union about “sliding scale” pay cuts. Meaning that high-paid players get their salaries slashed at a higher percent than lower-paid ones.
