JB cannot hide out at JB’s Hideout

JB's Hideout gets hit with a cease and desist order pic.twitter.com/xhFMnZn1I8

— Rich Miller (@capitolfax) May 19, 2020

* Back story

Police and the Macon County Health Department were called to a Blue Mound bar after a social media post said they would be throwing a “anti-corona party.”

JB’s Hideout, located at 341 N. Railroad Avenue, posted to their Facebook page that they would defy the stay-at-home order laid out by Governor JB Pritzker. […]

The bar also said Gov. Pritzker is not allowed in to the bar.

* Best retort…

So you’re saying JB isn’t allowed to hide out…at JB’s Hideout.

  5. Is there an intelligence test to get a liquor license?

  6. It’s like The Onion comes to life, part 4,739… is this like a quasi-prohibition like speakeasy? The password is “Think Big”? The “front” is changed to be a “Fleece Pullover” shop where they are never selling fleece pullovers? The emblem is a penguin? The house band is named “1871”?

  7. JB’S hideout is owned by the Pritzker Group as a tax dodge. So by shutting them down, he is actually lining his own pockets. Well played, sir. /S

  8. What Lincoln Lad said.

I’ve made some pretty stupid decisions while under the influence. Then again, I was under the influence.

  10. This bar’s window had the typical (banned word) J.B. I am glad to see this action. What this bar and the attendees were really saying is (same word as above) my 48 year old severely disabled son with lung and other difficulties. What this bar was really saying was we don’t care about anyone over 65 nor any one with diabetes nor anyone with a serious weight problem nor anyone with a heart problem. My son has a right to life and he still enjoys life. When people attack the governor like this they are really attacking and saying we don’t care about anyone vulnerable to this virus and they don’t care if old people, if disabled people or people with certain chronic conditions die. This bar and attendees was basically saying they have the right to be vectors for the virus, they have the right to make others sick and they have the right to cause some folks to die. I thank the Macon County Health Department, the Macon County Sheriff’s office and the Illinois Liquor Control Commission. They care about fellow vulnerable human beings.

You said it all… unfortunately some elected officials are using the moment to try and get on Fox News. Not all the knuckleheads own bars. Some are in the Statehouse.

Comment by Lincoln Lad Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 11:29 am

  22. It’s okay, I’m sure he’d be welcomed at the only hideout Central Illinois really needs - Abe’s Hideout, on Dirksen Parkway and in Mechanicsburg.

Comment by Osborne Smith III Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 11:31 am

  23. @Truthteller

In their minds, absolutely (banned punctuation).

They are now victims of a “corrupt She-caw-go Democrat gubner” and the “corrupt state gubmint he controls (banned punctuation)”.

With any luck at all, they’ll be on Fox News or Rush Limbaugh or Alex Jones, and they’ll be famous for standing up to this “corrupt She-caw-go Democrat gubnor and the corrupt state apparatus he controls (banned punctuation)”.

Heck, they might even get mentioned on Twitter by the orange baboon, or invited to the White House. Wouldn’t that be dandy?

And they’ll probably make a run for some sort of public office, (as a Republican, of course (banned punctuation)), and this will be the highlight of their qualifications: “victims of a corrupt She-caw-go Democrat gubnor and the corrupt state apparatus he controls”.

A plugged nickel says Thomas DeVore is pulling their strings to do this. He’s been all over the media lately (and undoubtedly cackling gleefully at all the advertising dollars he hasn’t had to spend to find new clients).

A dime says Jim Dey does a column defending them. 50 cents says that the backwoods conglomerate dragging the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette further and further down runs it in all the newspapers they own. Those of us in C-U will be subjected to it Sunday, and lining our bird cages with it by 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. A dollar says we’ll be subjected to 900,000 letters to the editor praising this bar owner and Mr. Dey for at least 2 weeks afterwards.

The scariest part: a quarter says they’ll get at least 40% of the votes in their campaign for political office, and quite possibly 60% or more, catapulting them on to “bigger and better things.”

They say God protects simple-minded people. Why does our media give such a platform to them?

  24. On the issue of JB “violating his own rule” by going to Wisconsin, or Florida, or wherever.

Look — Soccerdad and I are going to have to take refuge in Michigan in a week or two, because we have to have plumbers and electricians and things in our house. So we are going someplace safe where we can hide out in peace. (A friend’s empty house — not our own.)

I have no problem with JB’s family members staying in a place they feel safe, wherever that is. If his kids start going out to corona parties and infecting others, that’s a different story. But he harms no one if he gets in a car and drives two hours to Wisconsin. Give it a rest.

Not sure, I drove through a few months ago and it looked open. But I’m pretty sure if you went there you you are immune from the COVID…and a lot of other communicable diseases.

  26. having grown up a few miles up the road from blue mound, and by a lot of what i see in my facebook feed that still live in the area, this is my shocked face. of course, these are the same folks who want to separate from chicago without realizing that they are the takers, rather than the givers

  27. In reply to Lynn S. - Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 10:08 am:Rich, we’ve had “Our Sorry State” and “Dad’s Home State” here. Starting to think we need a “Covidiots going to Covidiot”, also. But a better title might be “Covidiot’s Cave”: The story of what goes on in a bar in Blue Mound. Starring JB as the Guv, and a cast of dozens as covidiots.

  28. - Lynn S -,

If someone can piece together a storyline. This one would be a tough one for me to “mockmentory”

    Little too raw.

The Onion aspect of these things are like little sonnets of quirky comedy and tragedy tied with a face mask.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 1:25 pm

  29. =It has become clear that one of the greatest crimes to humanity is inconveniencing a white person.=

    Unnecessary and pejorative.

Comment by OpentoDiscussion Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 1:31 pm

  30. Reading the tens (yes, literally tens) of comments on their Facebook page, there’s clearly a lot of “us and them” going on. Ruby red Blue Mound vs. Democrats, rich vs. working class, downstate vs. Chicago. The irony to me is these same people are the “Honor our veterans” “Respect authority” “Thin blue line” “If you’ve done nothing wrong do as the L.E.O. says, you have nothing to fear” crowd. Go figure.

Comment by Skeptic Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 1:50 pm

  31. What Soccermom said. We were out of town when the stay at home order hit, we stayed another month to avoid the first peak. We’ll drive to Minnesota to see our son in a month or so. Like JB our travels hurt no one, we keep our distance, support local businesses and food pantries as well as some relatives. We support JB and all those who keep us and themselves safe. There is nothing patriotic or constitutional about infecting people around you. The makers are masking, the takers are spewing.
