  1. Clay countys motion to open up died due to a lack of a second to the motion despite both Bailey and Harrison in attendance

  2. I, for one, cannot wait for baseball’s return. I tend to avoid the cesspit that is twitter, I’ve been enjoying the back and forth between Jose Altuve and Aroldis Chapman. Check it out if you have an inclination.

  3. Gov should’ve punted on the MLB question yesterday. Poorly worded answer and he looked foolish but it’s just a sports question, not the end of the world.

  4. Jim DeRogatis of Columbia College and WBEZ’s “Sound Opinions” interviewed The Hideout’s Katie Tutenfor a New Yorker piece about the long road to reopening my beloved small, sweaty music venues.

“Give me ‘Metra Rail and Commuting’ for 800, Alex… “

Why are towns like Oswego wanting Metra rail stops?

  7. Those are the people who make me think that maybe we should break away from IL and be our state. I get over it pretty quickly though.

  8. I too am looking forward to baseball starting. Though, I have questions. There have been so many different plans floated through the media and twitter, I have no idea which is the current one.

  9. Nobody wants the return of baseball more than I do. But I must agree that the Gov. sort of hashed up the MLB question yesterday. His challenge to the players to in effect “take one for the team” and play to be patriotic and entertain America during this difficult time was bizarre to say the least considering how many of our current Chicago baseball Chicago stars are Latin.

  10. ===Why are towns like Oswego wanting Metra rail stops?===

To bring the riff raff in? /s

Seriously, good luck on your county’s efforts…it will be a heavy lift even without considering the short and long term prospects of commuter rail after COVID. There are existing services that will likely be looked at critically in the aftermath of all this, to say nothing of service extensions.

  11. Honestly, I’m not sure what I think. But if decisions are being made “based on the science,” and the science is significantly different for the suburbs than it is for the city….At the very least, it’s a discussion with no simple answer.

  12. I can wait a little longer for baseball as long as they keep airing some of the classics. Last night, MLB had Game 5 of the 1956 World Series on, Don Larsen’s perfect game. I listened to it as much as watched. Micky Mantle made an unbelievable catch to rob Pee Wee Reese of a homer and Mel Allen’s call, “how about that!” was fantastic.

Thanks for the heads up on the New Yorker article on The Hideout.
    Really enjoyed reading it.
Great place to listen to new bands.
Hope the place comes out OK on the other side of this health
    problem.

I really miss First Tuesdays at the Hideout.
And they don’t appear to be offering a virtual version.
    Wonder why.

  15. The last MLB plan sounded like the games will be played in empty ballparks, possibly at Spring training location if the MLB parks are shuttered in some cities. The games will be limited to divisional opponents except for inter-league games. All games will use the designated hitter rule for this year. Expanded playoff entries, including the division winners and more wild card for this year leading to the league championships and World Series. The top teams in each league do not participate in the first round of playoff games as a reward for winning their league.

  17. The Governor should NOT have weighed into the MLB question yesterday. The plan the owners sent to the union does/days nothing to address the health, welfare and safety of players. The Governor acted like a billionaire in that moment instead of supporting and understanding the concerns of the union and players.

They’re rolling out more virtual stuff every day — Girl Talk with ChiPublicHealth Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady on 5/26‼ — but I’ll definitely ask.
