My dad has a "Little Richard" tattoo on his bicep. I used to think he got it after I was born. Nope. He was honoring THE Little Richard. Dad is a rocker. RIP Little Richard

Let’s keep it Illinois-centric and polite, please. Thanks.

  1. Got nearly all of Little Richard’s recorded music on my I-Phone, along with Chuck Berry and Ray Charles, thanks to I-Tunes. And that’s only naming a few of them. I was looking at my songs on the phone last night, and suddenly realized how many music artists are no longer with us. Rest in peace guys, and thanks for bringing so much enjoyment to our lives.

  2. Rich,

For years I wondered how you managed to have the musical sensibilities of a person ten to fifteen years older than you. Musicians of high quality who, nevertheless, would have been obscure to your peers. Your father’s good taste in music explains a lot. Thank you.

  3. Help out your neighbors, and support local food banks. Let’s be responsible, stick together, and ignore the extreme, divisive minority out there.

  4. I’m currently reading “The Fever of 1721: The epidemic that revolutionized medicine and American politics” by Stephen Goss. Really interesting look at colonial American history, medical history and the beginnings of journalism in this country. There’s a very young Ben Franklin involved, and Cotton Mather was exactly the jerk you think he might have been.

  5. Rich, that is a great story about your dad.

  6. I’m roughly the same age as Rich and for me, it was discovering the Beatles who then led me to Little Richard as one of their influences. Thanks for the shout out to a true rock revolutionary Rich.

  7. I like your rockin’ Dad’s style and taste in Rockers.

Little Richard’s sound can never die.

  8. My father also had his 45s of Little Richard, along with Aretha Franklin, Kingston Trio, Elvis and Ray Charles and many of the greats of that era. I introduced my kids to them all. I have those 45s and even 78s now. Also found some 8 tracks. Music from then was so much better.

  9. Saying Little Richard was an original is an understatement. He sounded and performed like no one before him.

How many of today’s artists can claim that?

I miss artists who sing without computers correcting their pitch and who sound better live than recorded. A rarity nowadays.

  10. Rich, thanks for sharing in your tweet.

    Little Richard…

Truly a musical icon, a word sometimes overused. He changed music, he was a character whose musical talent matched how large of a presence he was. “All that said”, taking zero away, his scene stealing and national anthem in “Mystery, Alaska” is an all time favorite cameo ever.

  11. I saw Little Richard perform at Lisle’s Eyes to the Sky festival in 1999. He performed for 2.5 hours. One of the best concerts I have ever been to.

  12. Please remember to cover your NOSE -and- your mouth with your face covering; am seeing an increasing number of grocery store workers and customers not doing so. Renders the face covering useless, and allows you to spread C-19.
