In California, a neighbor took a page out of Monty Python and put up a sign saying her driveway area was a "Silly Walking Zone.

This is how neighbors reacted.pic.twitter.com/aQPTQvGfvy

  1. That “silly walk” zone is too beautiful for words. Only video suffices! Cleese would be proud.

Comment by Linus Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 9:02 am

  2. I love it! Based on the video, this person clearly has some Python fans as neighbors.

  3. Please keep the family of longtime Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley in your thoughts and prayers. Aaron passed away suddenly yesterday at the all too young age of 55, leaving behind his wonderful wife of 30+ years, Regan, and his two daughters. One of the best descriptions of Aaron was one on Twitter that called him “a force of nature.” He was a really good guy.

  4. This is how sane people act in times of crisis; with light-hearted humor and optimism.

Not so sane; with protests, waving signs displaying all kinds of stupid.

  5. Too bad I don’t have a sidewalk in front of my house, or else I’d implement the Silly Walk Zone as well. I love it. Maybe that’s the next trend in Major League baseball? Don’t just walk to first, Silly Walk.

  6. Anyone else taking advantage of the nice weather to do projects around the yard that you’ve been putting off for years?

This might be the first year my raised bed garden actually happens.

  7. Is it just me or does it seem like an eternity since we’ve had a good “Because Madigan” story?

Comment by Gruntled University Employee Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 9:48 am

  8. Someone in my neighborhood did one of the silly walking signs too

  9. Seeing more of the ‘It will be OK’ signs popping up around Springfield, both the original wood ones and now some cut metal ones.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 9:55 am

  10. Didn’t realize how much I needed to see this & to appreciate silliness that occasionally doesn’t involve puppies & kittens. Also love that some of the folks understood the reference. Now to make a “warning, Black Knight ahead” signs… Or maybe Killer Rabbit ahead…

Comment by LoyalVirus Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 9:58 am

  11. =Now to make a “warning, Black Knight ahead” signs… Or maybe Killer Rabbit ahead… =

Or the Spanish Inquisition, which nobody will expect.

  12. “Or maybe Killer Rabbit ahead… =” But not the Comfy Chair[banned punctuation]

Comment by Skeptic Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 10:01 am

  13. Yes. That’s better.
Much rather be in the Department of Silly Walks than where we are today:

  14. From an NPR story about one neighbor (William) having a problem with another neighbor menacing him with a machete.

    https://www.wbez.org/stories/chicago-police-wouldnt-arrest-his-machete-wielding-neighbor-they-gave-him-advice-on-shooting-instead/2732ba63-9ddc-414d-a8c4-08d11ebe8aa6

“William said officers counseled him that if his neighbor was on his property with a machete or another weapon, William would be within his legal rights to shoot him. Then the police left again.”
So police in Chicago are encouraging people to shoot each other instead of doing their jobs?

  15. Wisconsin is now waiving road tests for teens seeking their driver’s license:

  18. =Anyone else taking advantage of the nice weather to do projects around the yard that you’ve been putting off for years?=

Yes! Built two raised garden beds about two weeks ago. All it took was 10 years and a global pandemic to get it done. We should be good with the produce in the fall.

  19. ===temporarily allows the same===

    Google is your friend.

  20. Raised bed gardening yes! I’ve been working at leveling and installing a new 9×3.5 galvanized steel bed until I can’t move — my favorite workout. Last weekend I unboxed 4- and 6-foot lengths of bamboo bought last winter and built plant supports for sunflowers that I suppose will be kindling after the first storm. But these exercises wildly therapeutic, even the fails.

  21. On my daily walks I notice a lot of sidewalk chalk stuff going on in my neighborhood. I’ve done more hop scotch in the last five weeks than in all my 53 years.

    Comment by Slugger O'Toole Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 12:24 pm

  22. “I’d like to post my answer in two ways; first, in my normal language, and then in a silly, high-pitched whine.” (Another piece of Python sketch).
No chalk zones by my house, just the wet grass a lawnmower left as its owner came down the sidewalk. Hmmm…do I have any chalk?? :) I could do a “wink, wink, nudge, nudge Zone” or maybe…

Comment by revvedup Tuesday, May 5, 20 @ 1:19 pm

  23. A good walk spoiled today by chasing a golf ball round the wet grass.
