The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 2,049 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 98 additional deaths.
Cook County: 1 female 30s, 1 male 30s, 3 males 40s, 2 females 50s, 3 males 50s, 5 females 60s, 6 males 60s, 7 females 70s, 8 males 70s, 1 unknown 70s, 5 females 80s, 16 males 80s, 8 females 90s, 3 males 90s
DuPage County: 1 female 70s, 1 female 80s, 2 male 80s, 2 females 90s
Jefferson County: 1 male 60s
Kane County: 2 males 50s, 1 female 70s, 1 male 80s
Kankakee County: 1 female 90s
Kendall County: 1 female 60s
Lake County: 1 male 60s, 1 male 90s
Macon County: 1 female 60s
Madison County: 2 males 70s, 1 male 80s
McHenry County: 1 female 70s, 1 male 80s
Monroe County: 1 male 80s
Rock Island County: 1 male 70s
St. Clair County: 1 male 80s
Will County: 1 male 50s, 1 male 60s, 1 male 70s, 1 female 80s, 1 male 90sCurrently, IDPH is reporting a total of 35,108 cases, including 1,565 deaths, in 96 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.

9,349 tests, positives hold at about 22% explaining the highest number to date. Are we finally getting closer to where we need to be on testing or was this a one-day surge? That is the question.

Dr. Ezike said during either the Saturday or Sunday briefing that there were some weekend numbers that hadn’t come in yet and that we might see a jump early in the week. I assume today’s total includes those

Is there a place where we can see the daily graph since our first Covid-19 case in Illinois was reported? Governor mentioned the other day that he was on his 42nd daily briefing.

I believe this is the largest one-day rise in cases, but the good news is that it’s also our biggest daily number of test results by far: 9,349 tests, not too far off the Governor’s goal of 10,000.
So the percentage of positive tests was about 22%, which is consistent with what we’ve been seeing for the past couple weeks.

So after a month of shelter in place dealing with a virus with a largely accepted 5 day incubation period, we are moving in the opposite direction. This isn’t a comment to assign blame, just express frustration. NY flattened their curve, what are they doing that we aren’t?

IDPH needs to provide Metrics by Day including cases, deaths, and tested. Indiana has a nice mobile friendly option

As Prom King notes, the rise in cases is simply in line with the increase in testing. The % daily positives has been between 20 and 25% since April 6 (and in that general rage since late March).
The indicators to hope for are an increase in daily tests that also has the daily % positive drop below 20% (and then trend down).

Where can we find the number of tests done in a day? I know the governor announced todays’ test numbers in the press conference, but is there a source reporting that?

Watching these daily numbers causes me to really want to study data and statistics. I’m seeing in the comments there that there was a press conference where numbers for previous days have been reported. Yet numbers from previous days are adding to a later date?

IDPH does have good data - but where is the daily (non-cumulative) data on cases, deaths, tested?
Thes numbers are mentioned each day in the breifing but they are not on the website.

Unfortunately, cases newly reported case are still rising, but the good news is that the rise appears to be slowing.

Can someone clarify what others are saying. Several have indicated that since we are conducting more testing, there is an expected increase in deaths. Does that mean there have been deaths occurring in the past 42 days that weren’t tied to COVID-19 that maybe would have been had we been testing all individuals who later died? It wouldn’t seem at face value that more tests mean in increase in deaths, but if it is the latter explained above, then our numbers are underrepresented.

More testing. More social pressure to stay home. There’s also a more serious and visibly apparent reason to stay home with the thousands of New Yorkers dying.

At the current overall rate of increase, looks like Illinois could hit 2,500 new cases a day by May 5-6. This assumes an overall continued increase in test results. Not looking too good for a Statewide lift of the shutdown/stay home orders before May 15th.

Shouldn’t the criteria to open the state consider the percent of cases that test positive each day and not the number of new cases each day.
Maybe they are but they often talk about the number of cases and if we test more each day we will really only find more cases but the rate of infection might not really be any higher.
