  1. Would have been a cold day to sit outdoors to watch baseball anyway.

Comment by Not Again Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 8:56 am

  2. Frank Aguilar is replacing Tbo? Didn’t he lose to his own shill? What is the logic behind appointing a Republican to a Dem’s seat in a district turning more blue by the second?

Comment by Ok Boomer Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 9:03 am

  3. Draft starts in 1 week. Predictions for the Bears.

Randall received the Arizona Reader Favorite Award for her book “Secrets of a Mariachi Violinist.” She writes and plays violin by night. Her day gig is teaching composition at Arizona University in sunny Tucson Arizona. She has written several mystery novels, is multilingual and well travelled.

  10. ==Would have been a cold day to sit outdoors to watch baseball anyway.==

Would have been a good day for me quit being so cheap and finally spring for some club tickets (at least for one game).

Comment by Monadnock Pigeon Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 9:16 am

  11. Doesn’t get much sketchier than the Aguilar appointment. This state so broken it sad. The sooner the people wake up and break up the political mafia running this state the better. Criminal what the guy has done to Morton College. Pity the poor Latinos that attempt to become educated at that “institution.”

Comment by Sassy Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 9:21 am

  12. @Sassy right? Does anyone know who Z gave his proxy vote to?

Comment by Ok Boomer Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 9:24 am

    You’re welcome.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 9:28 am

  16. ===Jim Paxson is next…===

Sounds like they’re keeping him around in an “advisory” role. Boylan will most likely be next.

  17. The Utah Legislature is holding a virtual Special Session this morning at 10am. Not sure if the Illinois General Assembly has this authority, but it will be interesting to watch.

Comment by Jose Abreu's Next Homer Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 9:36 am

  20. @Jose Abreu

You’re right. I read John instead of Jim. My bad.

  21. Happy Birthday to anybody having a birthday today. And Happy Anniversary to anyone anniversarying today too.

Comment by Skeptic Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 9:46 am

  22. Hoping the Sky trade up from 8 and make this happen!

    Bella Alarie, SF, Princeton

Alarie could go higher than this; she is very likely on Minnesota’s radar at No. 6. But if available, she could give the Wings a little different look as a skilled, versatile post player. Alarie averaged 17.5 points and 8.6 rebounds for the 26-1 Tigers, and her scoring and passing skills both could be assets for Dallas. She had 95 3-pointers at Princeton, and although 39 came her freshman year, she is respectable from long range.

  23. Gordon Ropp, former Director of Agriculture and State Representative, passed away April 14. WGLT had a nice remembrance on their website. Orion Samuelson quoted from it on WGN yesterday.

Comment by zatoichi Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 11:57 am

  37. - zatoichi -

Update and report, will there be Chai spice powder too?

I personally know not how weed factors *in* a banana bread, I’m “pro-nut” in banana bread, I had only chocolate chips during this last baking.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:04 pm

  38. Now let’s talk about the Tobolski replacement. Can we talk about the Tobolski replacement, please, Mac? I’ve been dying to talk about the Tobolski replacement with you all day, OK? “Frank Aguilar,” this name keeps coming up over and over again. Frank Aguilar. Frank Aguilar.

Comment by Charlie Kelly Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:09 pm

  39. I love the sound of birds now more than ever.

It’s both migration and mating season, so there are lots of them and they’re letting themselves be heard.

We keep our windows open all day and all night. Few cars, fewer trucks. Lots of chirping, squawking, pecking.

And the stress level goes down. And down. And down some more.

Comment by Scott Cross for President Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:17 pm

  40. @Charlie Kelly, I am not sure if you are trying to be funny or serious. With regard to Aguilar, will the votes be made public?

Comment by Ok Boomer Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:24 pm

  41. How to eat banana bread: get out plate and cut slice of banana bread. Pour favorite adult beverage. Toss banana bread in trash, drink adult beverage.

Comment by Huh? Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:36 pm

  42. Lt Guv–Whenever people tell me that they aren’t voting because their vote won’t count, I always tell about Gordy Ropp’s loss in the 1992 primary election by 7 votes. His opponent was Bill Brady now the Senate Minority Leader. Wonder what changes in history those few votes would have wrought on local and state politics!

Comment by Nearly Normal Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:48 pm

  43. Hey Oswego Willy,

You gonna make enough chai spice banana bread to share with the rest of us? ;-)

Perhaps Rich could serve chai spice banana bread at the next “Cocktails with CapFax”.

I have no doubt a few will be out back, in the alley, sampling the “edible” banana bread.

    Comment by Lynn S. Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:52 pm

  44. @ OKBoomer,

    What’s the logic?

    1. It adds another line to Frank’s resume.

    2. It helps Frank build up his pension.

    3. It keeps the seat red a little longer.

    4. And who knows? Perhaps lightning might strike, and Frank might win the election.

    Comment by Lynn S. Thursday, Apr 16, 20 @ 12:55 pm

  45. @Lynn S. yes those are definitely excellent points on Frank’s motivation to seek the seat. My question relates more to the motivation of the committeemen like Landek and Zalewski. Why would they support Frank? While it is possible, it seems unlikely that Frank will win in a district that already has progressive organizations that helped defeat Lipinski. This move just made the target on the backs of Steve and Z a lot bigger.

  46. Big Thanks to Capitol Fax for providing the straight scoop during this ongoing crisis.

  48. Thanks once again Rich for your excellent work on CFB. Hope you get some rest and Oscar Play Time. Ref: Banana Bread-how about we add bananas to it, and I’m still laughing at the throw it in garbage, enjoy adult beverage comment. Sun shining, birds singing, snow yesterday, yes it’s April in Chicagoland. NFL should be playing their short features with the late John Facenda narrating “It was the season of the _____’s discontent, when nothing went right…etc, etc.” Politics seems so irrelevant right now. Stay safe and sane everybody.

  49. In the 14th congressional district, yesterday’s FEC filing revealed which group was behind the over $900K of negative broadcast TV and radio ads against Jim Oberweis, paid for through Independent Expenditures from a “Pop up” super PAC called Illinois Conservatives PAC.

And they were funded by the Congressional Leadership Fund super PAC. ICYMI:
