  1. I wish more was being done to alleviate the lead pipes in the south side.

Lead poisoning causes increases violence. It seems like we treat the symptoms but fail to sell bonds and fix the lead poisoning that’s infecting hundreds of thousands Chicagoans.

  3. It’s a nice crisp and cool day here in CU. A fall weather day with the colors of spring. Love it.

  4. Hoo boy those storms last night. But other than a 30 minute power outage, no damage. Thanks to all of the power company workers for being on the job. We appreciate your service. (Banned punctuation)

  5. Saw some green shoots when I was out walking the other day, and the magnolia trees in front of my building are starting to come out. As I am on the third (top) floor, when I sit in my sunroom it’s like I’m sitting in the trees. I just hope the temperature drop doesn’t mess things up.

  6. My husband tells me Major League Baseball is considering playing their games in AZ with all kinds of new ways to achieve it in these times. He thinks it’s a good opportunity for them to try things they wouldn’t normally try.

  9. It’s early for Morels in N. Illinois and they are always a reason to celebrate. There is so much to mourn. Let’s not begrudge each other a few snatches of beauty and joy help to us along the way.

  10. Daffodils are out. Weather-permitting, looks like tulips soon. My lemon balm is off to a good enough start to put a handful into a smoothie this morning. Lilac bushes are leafing out already. Picked up the yard and somehow it’s still a big mess.

  11. In view of this week’s posting about Illinois & junk bond status … over / under on when the CAFR gets released? Of the largest 8 agencies, only audits outstanding seem to be CMS (Compliance), DHFS (Compliance and Financial), and DHS (Compliance and Financial). Since those audits cover 6 plus months of Rauner and 6 less months of Pritzker, will last year’s “lost data” issue be an issue again?

  12. I appreciate the sense of community here. Being home, this
space is especially important because it feels normal. Stay safe, stay healthy.

  13. Wisconsin reports problems with vote by mail absentee ballots. Ballots requested weeks ago were not delivered. Ballots returned without postmarks to permit clerks to determine timeliness.

If Rockford and Madison can do it we should be able to do it.

  16. Yep, the daffodils are blooming nicely in the yard. The trees and shrubs are starting to bud out, and the grass is nice and green. Looks like I’ll need to mow for the first time in a week or so. Unfortunately my spring allergies will also kick in for about 3 or 4 weeks.

  17. == the Gar/Pax era is over!==

Yeah I wouldn’t get too excited. Paxson was promoted, not fired, and he’s still going to want his fingerprints on anything they do. I give it 6 months before we get stories about tension between him and Karnisovas

  18. Sun is out, grass growing, tiger lillies have sprouted leaves, sounds of lawnmowing in distance. Squirrels running about. Birds chirping.

I always heard Mother’s Day was the safest early day to plant. But I’m always chomping at the big to start in April.

  21. Landscapers were mowing the grass next door at 7:30. Was already up for more than 2 hours by then. Novel times.

  22. Surprised at how spotty the storms were last night. South side of town got wind and a touch of rain, north side got hail.

Comment by Ok Boomer Thursday, Apr 9, 20 @ 10:46 am

  27. Dave Wills is my choice to replace Farmio in the Sox radio booth. Would love to see DJ “retire” start fresh with a new radio duo. Jim Thome would be a good color man or even AJ? Thoughts?

  28. Finished off my medication for strep throat today (just when one want upper respiratory conditions). To celebrate, I gave Wendy’s new breakfast a shot. I can confidently say that their hashbrowns (done greek potato style) are the superior fast food hashbrown. The sausage biscuit was well spiced, and the sausage croissant was interesting. For anyone, like myself, who take particular pleasure in fast food breakfasts (from time to time), I urge you to give it a shot. *Not a paid sponsor, or actor*

  31. Spring weather in all its varieties in central Illinois — daffodils are up, trees budding out, green sprouts everywhere. “The season of spring returning,” as Homer wrote so long ago. Walks with the camera becoming more enjoyable all the time. Heck, it’s even been fun getting outside to test out the new lawnmower.
