The governor also launched a new statewide effort called “All in Illinois” to reinforce staying home.
“I’ve taken virtually every action available to me to protect our residents and slow the spread, and now, our strongest weapon against COVID-19 is you,” Pritzker said. “For everyone in Illinois, we as individuals must commit to stay home, stay safe and practice social distancing to stay healthy. I’m asking you to join us and be all in for Illinois.”
All in Illinois is supported by a series of public service announcements featuring famous Illinois natives, including Jane Lynch, Deon Cole, Jason Beghe, Jackie Joyner Kersee, and Matt Walsh. The PSA videos reinforce the importance of staying at home during the COVID-19 crisis and encourages everyone to do their part to stop the spread of the virus.
People can also show their solidarity by updating their Facebook profile photos with the All in Illinois frame image and share messages with friends and family on social media using the #AllinIllinois hashtag.
I really didn’t expect it to amount to much, but the Twitter hashtag trended nationally for a while yesterday. It’s still going pretty strong today. The website is here. You can download window and yard signs here.
It’s actually kinda brilliant. Illinoisans are mostly a pessimistic lot about our state and have been for a very long time.
And as a commenter noted yesterday, it’s also a play on words. People are all-in for their state as they all stay in their homes to avoid spreading or contracting the virus.

Pritzker said he is “very, very proud” of those working and learning from home and essential personnel helping residents.
“I see you as tough as you are kind, as courageous as you are creative,” he said. “… All In is our anthem and our point of pride — Illinoisans staying home for the good of each other and for our state.”

As we’ve been going through different country models of how to flatten the curve - we are being walked through what China, South Korea, Singapore etc. have done. Some of those things are possible in the US and some just aren’t. But it occurred to us that we have to think creatively about what an AMERICAN model for getting social distancing to work looks like. I came from campaigns and so did a lot of people here and on campaigns - you use social pressure to persuade people to vote and vote for your candidate. We thought - why can’t we apply that to this? If everyone on your block has a sign out front saying they are staying in, has a Facebook profile filter, uses the hashtag - we know those things influence people on campaigns - no reason they can’t do the same here. It also gives people something proactive to do to help the effort. Anyway, wanted you to know the thinking behind it. Not just an interesting social media idea and a way to promote state unity but another piece of a bigger strategy to keep people inside.

I favor anything in these bleak times that fosters a sense of community and that we’re all in this together type of attitude.
I do however, wonder and worry about all those people that are All ill in ois.

Great message around which to rally and strive to flatten the curve. Lives and health literally depend on our staying home, if we’re not doing essential things.

Great idea. I think a lot of people right now are feeling helpless and/or want to know what they can do to help or show support for the efforts to address the pandemic. This is something easy and effective (stay inside and remind others to observe CDC recommendations), and give people an outlet.

This was really important, and I felt when listening and watching the Governor yesterday how important at that moment he called for a rallying of us all. Anyone can tell us things we need to do, or not do, or protect us from ourselves, but a call for… camaraderie… and taking time at the podium to recognize our need, the human need, to be part of something bigger than ourselves and embrace each other, even if it’s from afar.
The play on words is very cheeky and clever.
It works and I’m speaking for me, the Governor not only comes off as someone with compassion, I feel his compassion in how he’s been leading in these trying days.
You can’t fake compassion. We humans can fake many things, but compassion can’t be faked. This hashtag or campaign, it’s a rallying, and I’m “All In”… while I’m all in

I like it. I particularly like that all the videos of celebrities are with them in their shelter-in-place fashion. It underlines everybody is going through the same thing.

It’s smart and it’s great. Having a leader that takes this seriously and is proactive and reassuring is insanely refreshing.

A loooong time ago, when it was bad weather, I’d march my little ones in line around the house - it was fun (and I was made fun of), dorky, but it was exercise. If they were marching, they weren’t fighting. I still walk in the house with headphones…still worth doing.

This is a great idea, however I would also love to see more stress put on messaging coming from local authorities.
The message would get more traction if local residents heard their local leaders making the request to stay at home.
Some cities have leadership that has basically evaporated during this.
Some cities, shark cities specifically, even seem to be openly flaunting the say at home directive.
A little bit of shame for these cities, when their surrounding cities are providing an example how to handle this, might be enough to kick into gear a change in approach on some of the more intransigent towns.

Love it. I’ve never before changed my Facebook frame, but I did to this. Great design, great concept, and it feels surprisingly helpful in the sense of creating community, which since I live aline, I’m grateful for. I couldn’t be happier with my votes for Pritzker, both in the primary and in the general, and I was definitely one who was skeptical about the “billionaire non-politician” thing.

Whatever. Hashtag campaigns are the new opiate for the masses I guess. But easy enough to just ignore.
I’d rather have timely and accurate hospital admissions info and demographics on mortality statistics in my area.

I had friends in Europe freaking out over the Jane Lynch video, apparently she is big in Germany.

That’s sad. Our local leadership has been all over this, with unified messaging coming from the village, township, school districts, library, and park district, in cooperation with the county health department and the local hospital. They’ve been clear, consistent, responsive, and direct, providing frequent timely updates and links to reliable sources of information. They’re also highlighting community efforts to pull together, like the window scavenger hunts people are doing for kids, and the chalk drawings on sidewalks. They also put out a list of every restaurant in town that is doing delivery or curbside.
Like, it is a SUPER stressful situation, but I’m confident that my local leaders are continuing to provide good information and to take the necessary actions to keep the community safe(r). So I can just freak out about the coronavirus, and not about utter anarchy in local leadership.
It’s also been really reassuring for my 8- and 10-year-old; even though we try to consume the news where they can’t see it, it’s impossible to keep everything from them, and my 8-year-old in particular has had a LOT of anxiety about Trump’s botched management of the crisis. We’ve been letting him watch bits of JB Pritzker’s press conferences, and read the local updates from our local authorities, and they’re making him feel a lot better that even though things are scary and uncertain, there are competent adults who are working hard on this.
(When he’s real anxious we let him watch Andy Bashears in Kentucky, everyone’s internet covid boyfriend.)
