Rate Marie Newman’s new TV ad

* Press release…

Today, Marie Newman’s campaign released its second television advertisement highlighting the contrasts between Marie and Dan Lipinski’s views on health care. The ad, “A Clear Choice for IL-03,” reminds voters about Lipinski’s vote against the Affordable Care Act and how that would have allowed insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. In contrast, Marie believes that health care is a right and is fighting to expand health care coverage.

The ad also highlights the Chicago Sun-Times’ endorsement of Marie Newman, because she “leaves no doubt that she will stand up for health care, Dreamers and women’s rights.”

* Ad

* Script

People concerned about health care can’t trust Dan Lipinski.

Dan Lipinski voted against Obamacare which means Lipinski would deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.

Democrats have a clear choice – Marie Newman.

Marie’s believes that health care is a right because she knows what it’s like to have gone without health insurance. Unlike Dan Lipinski, Marie is the only Democrat who will fight to expand health care to everyone.

The Sun Times endorsed Marie saying there’s “no doubt she will stand up for health care.

* Much of this campaign is being fought around the healthcare issue

You can rate that one, too, if you’d like.

  1. I think they are both decent for what they are trying to do. Solid B. I think the Newman ad would be more effective if spoken by the candidate, and I note that the term Medicare for All is avoided. The Lipinski ad is likewise probably effective in a ‘scare the old folks’ sort of way, and seems to want to imply that Newman will take away people’s health care completely instead of replacing it. Pretty clear contrast here with Darwish staking out a middle position giving people a choice of private coverage or a Medicare like system.

  2. I actually think that they are both pretty good. They even look like they were made by the same consultant. A MN/ A- DP

    Both ads drive the messages home for the candidates on their respective positions. They also both pass the “play video without sound” test. I give Marie Newman a slight edge on the negative pictures of Lipinski with the clearer message attached to it.

    However I think Lipinski’s actual position on healthcare plays better in his district.

  3. We’re talking dueling B’s. I think both ads are good since they seem to acknowledge and draw attention to an issue that they clearly know is important to this district’s voters. At the same time due to their need to be somewhat subtle in their language I can’t see that either ad really moves the needle very much. This Dem primary race is more interesting to me than almost any other contest in Illinois. Can’t wait to see what happens.

  4. Newman Ad?

    Solid B. Although very cookie cutter, the production quality and name being seen and heard is pretty solid.

    Lipinski ad?

    It’s a C-. Yeah, it hits Newman here and there but it looks like a bad cable ad for a car dealership in it’s quality. It’s not changing minds with it’s mediocre quality, and as a reminder, it’s a meh.

  5. meh on both. if I don’t watch the visuals, I’m better with the message. I’m sick of the bag of stuff ads.

  6. I’ve actually seen the lipinski ad on the air a couple times. I’ve yet to see anything from Newman.

    Has to be seen to be effective….

  7. What’s most interesting is Newman has yet to mention abortion in her ads (unless I missed something.)
