Question of the day

Posted in:

* SJ-R

The artist LL Cool J will no longer appear at the 2020 Illinois State Fair Grandstand, according to social media posts by the fair.

A statement on the fair’s Facebook page and the Grandstand’s web page Monday evening said, “LL Cool J is no longer able to perform at the 2020 Illinois State Fair. The Department of Agriculture will announce another performer in the weeks ahead and looks forward to welcoming popular artists like Toby Keith, Chris Young and Kane Brown to the Grandstand this August.”

The performance was announced Jan. 31 and scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19. Tickets had not yet gone on sale. The event was still listed under “concert dates” on the artist’s Facebook page Monday night. No further information was available.

* The Question: Your suggestion for a replacement artist/band? Explain.

  2. The Rock-afire Explosion

Unlike other animatronic shows of the early 1980s, the Rock-afire Explosion was designed to be life-sized, with most of the performers being about the size of an average adult human.

  19. fs, Snoop is going to be in Aurora this summer. Kind of hope they call it the

  24. Not sure the timing would work for any of these bands, but the following acts are touring this summer, so theoretically it could be possible to book:

    What’s left of the Eagles.
    Santana
    The Who
    Mettalica
    Ozzy Osbourne
    Styx
    Def Leppard
    Rod Stewart
    Guns n Roses
    Aerosmith
    Journey

    And others.

  27. The Doobie Brothers are doing a 50th Anniversary tour with Michael McDonald. They are scheduled to play in St. Louis on August 14 & KC on August 15, then don’t have another show scheduled until the Minnesota State Fair in August 28. Why not add the Illinois State Fair to their schedule?

  31. Wilco would be a solid choice. David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen would be fun.

The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Mumford & Sons . . . . many possiblities.

Comment by Say What? Wednesday, Mar 4, 20 @ 3:04 pm

Some excellent more recent acts: H.E.R., Tank and the Bangas, Florence + the Machine, Gary Clark, Jr., Trombone Shorty, Brittany Howard/Alabama Shakes, Khalid

  38. Blondie’s new(ish) album isn’t bad… maybe them?

Comment by New Wave Lover Wednesday, Mar 4, 20 @ 4:44 pm

  39. If you want to keep it in the same genre’, Chance The Rapper might be a good guy - and he’s local. Li’l Wayne’s on tour this summer. Maybe go another way: John Legend and Nora Jones?

Or JB could pull some strings because Paul McCartney’s touring this summer.

A lot of possibilities in this list: https://concertful.com/tour-dates/2020
