The Champaign county clerk really needs to get his act together

Posted in:

* From the Champaign County GOP

Earlier this week WCIA covered the mailing of multiple ballots to some absentee voters in Champaign County. The County Clerk claimed that it wouldn’t present any problems because these people couldn’t vote twice.

However, state law requires that every Election Authority (County Clerk) upload to the State Board of Elections the names of everyone who has received a pre-election ballot. Every jurisdiction in the state is complying with this law except Champaign County and Alexander County (literally, the poorest county in the state).

This list allows the state, other jurisdictions, and poll watchers to look for duplicate voting. So right now, a voter who casts a ballot in Champaign County is able to register to vote in another jurisdiction in the state and they would have no reason to believe that they were not entitled to a ballot.

Once again, Champaign County voters are given assurances about the conduct of elections, but once again a major failing exists.

Scaremongering aside, there’s just no reason for this nonsense. Click here and see the full statewide list for yourself.

  1. They can’t find a UIUC student willing to be an intern to solely focus on this one task?

Then have someone double-check the actual work?

What lame excuse can there be for Champaign county not complying?

  2. Champaign County is in good company. Mistakes happen. DuPage County keeps sending my daughter a card showing her where to vote. She moved out of state over 15 years ago, and she has repeatedly notified them. Then a couple years ago, the new electronic voting system they bought would not work because of some computer hardware problem. Something would not fit in the plug, and they had to dispatch sheriff’s police to physically bring the information to the Wheaton office. They hadn’t bothered to even test the system on their computers before election night.

  3. This is what happens when incompetent people get elected. Keep in mind that Pat Quinn expunged his record on the last day in office so that he could serve in an elected position.

  4. How does McHenry County not have any vote by mail ballots? 0 By Mail, 0 By Mail Returned? Reporting error?

  5. “Alexander County (literally, the poorest county in the state).”

Its nice that you think that the reason Alexander County hasnt complied is due to being the poorest in the State, and not due to incompetence or the people in that office who just dont work. Maybe the Clerk could start showing up for work every day and get this done. If you look back through your own archives you will find that absentee ballot problems are not new in that County.

“Keep in mind that Pat Quinn expunged his record on the last day in office so that he could serve in an elected position.”

And Rauner expunged the Record of the Alexander County Democratic Party Chairman for the same reason.

They have some things in common it seems

  6. Does the Clerk need a Coach bag to deliver the ballots in or something?
