Mailer attacked for being “extremely offensive”

Posted in:

* From Carolyn Schofield, a Crystal Lake Republican who is running against Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee)…

Rich-

I hesitated to send this because I find this mailer extremely offensive not just to me personally but to all women. However, I thought you might be interested as I find this behavior from a sitting legislator sickening. Using a #rape, #sexualharrassment for political gain is pathetic. This went out about a week ago and everyone that I know that received it said it was addressed to the male in the household.

If my opponent were to attend any interview/forum that he were invited to then he would know I have publicly addressed all of the issues he completely lies about on this mailer. I guess if you don’t show up to find the truth then he feels justified in spreading lies. Linking me to Mike Madigan (a man who I have never met or said anything positive about) only plays on the statistics that show negative attacks work. This is the tactic he barely won on last time (along with $500,000 of Proft/Rauner money to spread those lies) and he has done nothing as a representative to run on this time. I truly hope the voters of the 66th District do not fall for these desperate tactics.

The best way to fight back is with your own mailers, but Schofield ended the fourth quarter with just $6,000 in the bank and has reported raising $7,500 since then.

* Anyway, here you go…

Thoughts?

  3. Thoughts;

    “The best way to fight back is with your own mailers“

    That’s a pretty good thought.

    If your running against one of the Hateful Eight, understand what it means to have membership in that Hateful Eight.

    Burning daylight, if you’re going to beat him, complaining about mail you seemingly can’t answer, financially, isn’t a solid way to do it.

  4. Eat your feelings, use it to fundraise and then go knock some doors. This isn’t rocket science.

    Comment by Sonny Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:32 am

  5. Thoughts? What did you expect from skillicorn? Honesty? Policy discussion?

    He has one gear and that is this kind of garbage.

    If she doesn’t have money then hit the streets hard, that doesn’t cost anything. Get volunteers, have a compelling message.

  6. Sonny and JS Mill have the right idea, use these mailings to get volunteers and knock on doors (banned punctuation)

  7. I would like to think that 2016 taught Dems the futility of ‘going high’ (while whining), but Carolyn is proving me wrong.

    In addition to learning a new term (’pre-born’), it looks like Skillicorn (and the ILGOP) want credit for ‘objecting’ to rising property taxes…while offering nothing (other than seceding) by way of solutions.

    Comment by Jocko Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:35 am

  8. After reading this and doing a little research on the race I wanted to donate to Ms. Schofield’s campaign. I found a link to her website which unfortunately have several problems. Minor formatting ones and one that might help to explain her poor fundraising performance - her donate link is dead. There seems to be no easy way to donate to her campaign.

  9. === …taught Dems the futility of ‘going high’ (while whining), but Carolyn…===

    She’s running in the GOP primary.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:39 am

  10. ===Carolyn is proving me wrong===

    As clearly stated above, she is a Republican.

    Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:39 am

  11. This actually reminds me of DPI attack mailers.

    Comment by Oak Parker Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:40 am

  12. ===reminds me of DPI attack===

    Yep. Same.

    Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:41 am

  13. I’d say the GOP is launching stones from a glass house, but I don’t think there’s any glass remaining in that structure anymore.

    Comment by Candy Dogood Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:45 am

  14. There is exactly one tweet with the hashtag #silentSchofield.

    Comment by City Zen Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:46 am

  15. Apologies. So Skillicorn’s message is, “I may not be effective, but at least I’m loud.”

    Comment by Jocko Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:51 am

  16. “What did you expect from skillicorn?”

    Sure he is a bit vitriolic in his rhetoric, and as an ardent supporter of 2A and pro-life issues, he makes enemies. However he also is sponsor on some common sense bills:

    One rather than two vehicle license plates.

    Require LEO get a search warrant for phones/wireless communication devices.

    Comment by Donnie Elgin Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:51 am

  17. It’s a good mailer. Campaigns are rough and tumble. I always laugh when I see people complain about negative mail. It’s like going to the ballpark and not expecting hotdogs and beer. In any competitive race, negatives will be around. If you don’t like it, don’t run. This is what you signed up for.

    Comment by Hey Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:54 am

  18. === Sure he is a bit vitriolic in his rhetoric===

    If you’re making excuses for any of the Hateful Eight, you’re allowing that vitriolic to be acceptable.

    Thanks for letting me know.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 10:55 am

  19. “pre-born”?
    I guess then I’m “pre-dead”
    IIRC correct English usage would be “unborn”.
    Absolutely agree with the other comments. The devolution of language just stuck in my craw.

  21. Ever seen Madigan candidate’s backed mailers… just as bad or maybe worse.

    Comment by Hmmmm... Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 11:02 am

  22. I’m confused. I am assuming that Sillicorn is targeting Trump supporters and Fox News fans. If so, why would he criticize someone for being silent on sexual harassment?

    Comment by Henry Francis Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 11:03 am

  23. This is par for the course.
    Oh, on the political campaign course, the negative attacks will get sketchier and more personal.

    New Normal.

  26. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Carolyn loves slinging mud, and is then surprised when some gets tossed back? Gimme a break.

    Anyone else notice how she tellingly deflects from the point of the mailer? No chastisement of the Speaker. No denial that she backs property tax hikes, abortion, gun control, or that she takes contributions from the same organizations that overwhelmingly support the Speaker and his supported candidates.

    If she thinks this is bad, just wait to see what Madigan tosses her way should she manage to win the nomination.

    Comment by Carolyn doth protest too much Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 11:55 am

  27. === No chastisement of the Speaker. No denial that she backs property tax hikes, abortion, gun control, or that she takes contributions from the same organizations that overwhelmingly support the Speaker and his supported candidates.===

    Save the hyperventilating and the words next time and just type;

    “She’s Madigan’s favorite Republican”

    Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 11:56 am

  28. @ Donnie Elgin, I was wondering if you were being snarky because Skillicorn’s support of bills requiring only one license plate and search warrants for cell phone information hardly qualifies Skillcorn to be included in a “profiles in courage” list. The U.S. Supreme Court already requires search warrants (absent existent circumstances) for wireless devices. Also, I have not seen any news that indicates that Illinois’ requirement of two license plates is a burning issue amongst the populace.

    Comment by Bourbon Street Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:00 pm

  29. *exigent* circumstances, not “existent” circumstances. Stupid auto-correct

    Comment by Bourbon Street Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:12 pm

  30. You want to counter a negative ad from Skilly?

    Just screen shot his twitter feed.

    It would provide all the ammunition you would ever need

    She also doesn’t dispute that she supports sexual harassment and rape. Why did you stop short CDPTM?

    Comment by Henry Francis Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:19 pm

  32. Looks like Skilly starts his exit interview early.
    Perhaps someone could ask what Skilly did about Nick, Rep. Paws and Cyberattackee — other than refill the candy jar?

  33. Carolyn Schofield is a good and decent person who has been effective in her previously held offices. She works well with those across the party aisle and those who disagree with her. Unfortunately, those qualities make her a long shot in a Republican Primary. I know a lot of people who would vote for her and her style of governance and politics in our area. Except they are taking a Democratic ballot. There are two good candidates in the Dem Primary. Suzanne Ness will have my vote even though I think highly of Carolyn. A jungle primary with weighted voting would give Schofield a chance.

    Comment by Froganon Friday, Feb 14, 20 @ 12:31 pm

  34. ===reminds me of DPI attack===

    a mild one at that.

    Wish all this stuff would go away, but this isn’t alarming compared to so many others.

  35. Is it possible that focusing on what a person doesn’t say may be a sign of intellectual inferiority?

    That’s the real point of this mailer.
