Question of the day

Posted in:

* Press release…

US Senator Ted Cruz has officially endorsed Conservative Republican Mary Miller for Congress in the March 17th Primary Election in the 15th Congressional District.

Cruz posted the following statement on his Facebook page: “In Illinois, I am proud to offer my endorsement and support to Mary Miller for Congress in her campaign for Congressional District 15! I hope you join me in supporting her today.”

Senator Ted Cruz is one of the leading voices of conservatism in the US Senate. A recently launched podcast featuring Senator Cruz (https://www.iheart.com/podcast/867-verdict-with-ted-cruz-56253661/) is one of the most downloaded podcast in the nation.

“I am truly honored and humbled to have the support of Senator Ted Cruz in this race,” Miller said. “Ted Cruz is a principled conservative who is not afraid to stand up for his convictions. I look forward to being able to work with Senator Cruz as a member of Congress.”

Mary Miller is running for Congress in the 15th Congressional District, which includes all of 29 counties and parts of four counties. The District is almost 52 percent rural.

* Press release…

Patrick Pfingsten, spokesman for the Darren Duncan for Congress campaign, released the following statement on recent reports on Ted Cruz’s endorsement in the 15th Congressional District:

The 15th Congressional District covers all or parts of 33 counties in central and southern Illinois. It stretches from Champaign and Ford Counties to the north, all the way south to the Ohio River and across to Madison County, just outside of St. Louis. The district includes Danville, Mattoon-Charleston, Effingham, Harrisburg, Metropolis, and Collinsville. The current Congressman, John Shimkus, is not seeking re-election.

* The Question: Do you think a Ted Cruz endorsement can move the needle in a GOP congressional primary in that part of Illinois? Explain.

  1. Only unless and until Duncan mentions the Zodiac Killer.

  2. Yeah I suppose, seeing as Cruz and Trump seem to be all cool now even after the nastiness back and forth in 2016. Not sure how Cruz has been obstructing Trump, unless voting with him over 90% of the time isn’t enough for some people. Endorsement is a mild plus unless Trump jumps in or gets into it with Cruz again.

  3. I would be very surprised if Cruz’s endorsement does anything at all. He’s just not very respected or liked, even the conservative folks I know are pretty ambivalent about him

Comment by Perrid Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 2:50 pm

  4. Do you mean the same Ted Cruz who was humiliated by Trump during the primary, failed to endorse him in the convention, and now obsequiously obeys his every whim in the senate. /S

Comment by Jocko Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 2:52 pm

  5. Yes, this is exactly what we need. Fighting to get as far out on the fringe as possible.

Comment by Southern Illinois Mayor Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 2:55 pm

  6. Will not move the needle. Too many Voters in that District will not care about a Senator from TX endorsement for it to matter.

    Comment by SOIL M Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 2:57 pm

  7. I agree with Jocko. Cruz has his wife called ugly, his father called a conspirator in the Kennedy assassination, and during the impeachment trial he had no problem voting against witnesses who had first hand knowledge to ensure the American people didn’t learn much about the truth. With the deficit growing at its fastest rate ever, I guess the tea party conservatives didn’t mean any of it either. I don’t think an endorsement from this man should matter much to anyone who believes elected officials should bring character and backbone to their jobs.

Comment by Lincoln Lad Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 3:04 pm

  8. Yes it will help. I get Dems thinking no one knows or cares.
    .
Ted Cruz is a national figure, he stood up to the press for Trump over the last three months. He is essentially a surrogate for the President at this point. The district is heavily conservative and everyone in that district knows who Ted Cruz is.
Until today I didn’t know who Darren Duncan was? I’m guessing most people don’t know him either.
Duncan is also making the point he’ll stand with Trump- Cruz is already doing that and has much bigger name ID in your own district.

  9. Lincoln Lad, trade deficit dropped to three year low in January.

To the post, Cruz’s endorsement means nothing.

  10. I think Duncan should see her Ted Cruz and raise her a Ted Nugent.

Cocked, locked and ready to rock.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 3:46 pm

  11. Who knows? I think an endorsement from third cousin Rich Miller would be more beneficial.

Comment by pool boy Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 3:49 pm

  12. -XFL fan
Trade deficit? I’m talking the federal deficit. You know, that little thing of us spending hundreds of billions more each year than we bring in…quickly growing to a trillion dollars a year.

Comment by Lincoln Lad Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 3:58 pm

  13. I think Cruz’s endorsement means more than people here are giving credit. He gets face time on Fox news frequently and I’m sure that airs nightly on more than a few homes in the 15th district.

More importantly, the endorsement gets her more press attention than her opponents. That will end up moving the needle more than anything.

Comment by FotP Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:09 pm

  14. No

Comment by Generic Drone Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:27 pm

  15. My mistake, Lincoln Lad. I get you now. Same kind of little thing we have a problem with in Illinois.

Comment by XFL fan Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:31 pm

  16. Yes. The Cruz endorsement will mean something to many in that district.

Comment by Logic not emotion Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:32 pm

  17. No worries XFL fan… I was wrong too. The Congressional Budget Office projects the 2020 deficit at $1 trillion. We’re already there.

Comment by Lincoln Lad Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:36 pm

  18. I’d be surprised if half of those people even know who Ted Cruz is. So, no, I’m not sure it will make a difference.

Comment by Demoralized Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 5:06 pm

  19. Kiss of death to any thinking, discerning member of the voting public who sees through the incessant gaslighting by the GOP.

Comment by Huh? Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 5:13 pm

  20. Stopped reading after “Ted Cruz.” After all the things Trump said about his wife, himself, and his father – and he still supports Trump like a little (redacted) – I’ve read all I care to read about Ted Cruz.
