Pritzker fighting to prevent deposition on racial discrimination suit

Posted in:

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s personal lawyers are seeking to keep him from having to sit for a deposition in a racial discrimination lawsuit against his campaign.

The lawsuit accuses Pritzker’s campaign organization of sidelining minority workers.

Pritzker has denied wrongdoing, and in a court filing, says he delegated day-to-day campaign operations to staff.

Indeed, the governor was dismissed from the case months ago, and his lawyers say defendants just want to question Pritzker in order to “pull him back into litigation.”

The filing is here.

  1. Without going into the merits of either this motion or the underlying lawsuit, with all the filings going on currently with events in D.C., it’s nice to read a legal filing that actually looks like it was written by lawyers and is not just a political screed.

You mean we can stop pretending that a candidate has complete knowledge of the bottom levels of a 200 plus campaign staff? I can imagine that complaints of the alleged discrimination were heard by immediate superiors but the communication structure isn’t designed to carry a message from that low on the totem pole.

It always takes a year or so but while campaigns are rolling lets all remember how little the candidate and the campaign are actually related. Santa Clause isn’t real and your favorite candidate isn’t really listening to you even if you phonebank for him once a week.

  5. Someone should get a sign for the Governor’s
desk that says “The Buck stops somewhere else”.
