You don’t see this every day

Posted in:

* Somebody actually took the time today to print this out and then go to a UPS store in Chicago to send me this fax…

I have no idea about the McPier thing, but I’ve asked and will get back to you if I hear back.

Also, I am pretty sure the governor has said he would try to convince people to move to Illinois from other states. So, here’s to success! A Hoosier could be moving here! Huzzah! /s

And, yes, I still fax the subscriber edition. You’d be surprised how many people still receive them and want them. So, let me be clear: I am not dissing faxes. It’s part of my publication’s name after all.

It’s just that I don’t receive many faxes any more. And I cannot remember the last time somebody went to the trouble to send me an anonymous tip via fax. Not a bad idea, actually. Very difficult to trace. Many thanks to whomever sent me this. I’m on it!

  2. Meh. I’m sticking with sending you scoops via semaphore.

  3. Eh. Illinois needs to get into the habit of conducting searches and appointing subject-matter experts from all over the country, rather than just digging through the resumes of local connections.

  8. The silly war between Indiana and Illinois is a detriment to both states in the long run. A rising tide lifts all boats; big waves lead to capsizing.

  11. I wanted to share my thoughts on faxes (no disrespect intended):

    1. I, among some Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals utilizes fax to communicate directly with others without relying on the transcription of a third party (TTY/VRS Relay services) theses days. Emails don’t always work best when it comes to these things and the same can be said about postal correspondence, so this is a happy medium.

    2. Basing on my poor memory and possibly understanding, but I believe based on HIPPA law, the only way medical records can be sent electronically is through faxes, any other electronic format isn’t authorized?

    3. I know whistleblowers rely on being able to report through faxes because it helps prevent possibly retaliation or at least give them confidence to be able to report things with less chance of being exposed or ignored if their identity was made known beforehand.

That’s enough out of me today.

Hard to argue with either of those points.

  13. Based on delivery via fax it’s Pat Quinn. MJM still uses the more reliable telegraph.

  14. Good for this person. Got to love the interest and effort, and got to love the use of the fax machine. Never abandon the fax, Rich. I still remember, as part of my duties at my first job at 15 years old, having to go collect the CapitolFax off the fax machine every morning and leave it on the CEOs chair for him when he got in.

  15. I’m curious if the writer of the message had to wrangle on which font type to use in this fax to be taken seriously. I know I spend a good 5-10 minutes trying to decide on a font when writing “serious matter”… ;-)

  16. I started with looking up the meaning of a fax and then proceeded to these other things. How did you people function and how are you still functioning?

(all snark from an old s.o.b.)

  17. Woodstock from “peanuts” comic strip: |||||||||||| ||||| ||||

    Illinois residents: … — …
I still have a landline and multifunction printer with fax; some places don’t give out email addresses, and easier than going out to fax.

  18. “HIPPA”

    No. As long as:

You are following the rules of using that info (legit biz need, minimum needed info, send it to someone who has legit need, via way that is secure to the recipient))

You can send via email, webform, etc.

  20. ===Is JB really going to appoint an INDIANA resident as the CEO of McPier===
Does the INDIANA resident have a name? Stay by the fax for further news.
