One of the last remaining holdouts, Cass County to finally get its own website

Posted in:

* Cass County has a population of 12,260 and its largest municipality is Beardstown. I did not know that it doesn’t have its own website until today, when I read this story by Samantha McDaniel-Ogletree

Cass County plans to boost its online presence with the launch of a new website in a few weeks.

The website, which should be available Dec. 1, will house information about the county, government and attractions.

County board member Josh Millard said Cass County is one of only a few counties in the state that does not have its own website.

“Trying to find information on the county is a nightmare,” Millard said. “We are one of four counties that didn’t have a website.”

Work on the website began in January.

  1. Cass Co. deserves a lot of credit for being resource-conscious in waiting to see if the Internet would just be a passing fad.

  3. prefer-
I believe Johnson county is one.
And if you know anything about Johnson county, they probably won’t have one ten years from now.

  4. Even I sometimes don’t realize every government unit whether county, city, school district, public school, etc. isn’t available online. It makes you wonder what the benefits of being online are and it also makes you wonder if some of these units have a fear or just no interest in being online.

  5. “What are the other 3 counties?” I’ll bet Lincoln county doesn’t have one. /s

  6. Alexander County? Didn’t they get their sheriff’s patrol cars repossessed within recent memory?

  7. I was in Cass County Circuit Clerks office in the mid 80s and asked the Circuit Clerk for an estate file from the early 50s. I apologized for not having a case number. He reached in a draw, pulled out a file, handed it to me and said, “O, we weren’t using numbers then.”

  8. I have it on good authority, that by statute, “the county of Cass, State of Illinois, shall not engage in utilization of any “so called news contraptions”, until the Telegraph Tool has been understood and used by all persons who have reached majority”. Written into law circa 1855”.

  9. Should there even be a county with only 12,000 residents. Seems rather inefficient.

  10. OTOH, Cass County doesn’t do Twitter or FaceBook - so, maybe smarter than the rest of us.

  11. Groucho, just curious, what’s your line of demarcation? If you think 15,000 is too small, then that’s about 1/3 of all Illinois counties that should go bye bye.

Comment by Steve Rogers Monday, Nov 25, 19 @ 12:35 pm

  12. 12,000 seems small, even 4,000 (Hardin) seems small for a county, but the amazing thing is even Hardin County is the smallest county in Illinois, it’s nothing in the larger picture. According to Wikipedia the smallest counties in the US are less than 100 people and there are 35 counties with less than 1,000 people, a lot of them in Texas and Nebraska.
