The revelation in the federal indictment of state Rep. Luis Arroyo that an unnamed state Senator had been wearing a wire and cooperating with federal investigators since 2016 elicited a mix of reactions from lawmakers in Springfield this week. […]
State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, said the disclosure regarding a cooperating witness hasn’t changed the way he operates.
“Well I think you should always be cautious what you say to anybody, you know, and not do anything criminal,” Moylan said.
State Rep. Elizabeth Hernandez, D-Cicero, said the idea that one of her colleagues had been wearing a wire was disappointing.
“Because for those who try and work in such a way to build that trust among the public, the unfortunate actions of a few really impact all,” she said.

Disappointed that someone was wearing a wire? Really Rep Hernandez? Some Chicago city council members said a similar thing and it made them sound as if they were protecting corruption. Not a good look for someone appointed to the new special investigating committee.

Here’s an idea. Assume everyone is wearing a wire all the time. Only say things that you are comfortable being recorded.

Yeah I don’t think those comments are nearly as bad as the ones that emanated from the Chicago aldermen not that long ago. They were acting like the wired up colleague was betraying them.

It sounds like Hernandez was referring to Arroyo’s actions, not the wire. Center Square does not seem to be reporting in good faith - shocker.

If Hernandez thinks that it is disappointing a she cant trust an elected official, think how the people who elected and trusted him feel. You know what the rules are. Try to follow them. Act behind closed doors the way you would in church. The only person wearing a wire there is the priest. (for Catholics)

Hernandez’s remarks were clearly about Arroyo and Sandoval, not the cooperating witness.
Always bet on Center Square to get it wrong.

In todays world you should always think that you are being recorded. If not by someone wearing a wire, then someone with a phone, security cameras, traffic cams, someone is always watching and/or listening so conduct yourself so that you dont have to worry about it

If you’re worried about someone wearing a wire, ugh.
If you’re worried about someone wearing a wire and these are your thoughts to it… you’re doing your job wrong.
You aren’t required to answer every question too, by the by.

I’d like the full quote from her, or the specific question asked, to be sure I know what she meant was disappointing before jumping down her throat. Her response would work better as a response to it being necessary, for example.
She’s talking about public trust, and someone wearing a wire doesn’t damage the public’s trust.

Think, why did you take your comments back? Hernandez was clearly talking about the violation of public trust when she says “this” not the wire itself. You were right the first time.
