Shenanigans!

[Anthony Sarros, executive director of the ILGOP] said that a banner, a flag and signs promoting President Donald Trump were stolen overnight from the Republican Party of Illinois’ tent at the Illinois State Fair. […]

Gone, he said, was an eight-by-four foot banner with Trump’s name and the words “Make Illinois Great Again.” A three-by-five foot flag with wording “Keep America Great” and “2020” was also taken, as were about 20 yard signs.

“Weirdly enough, we have a life-size cutout of the president, and that was still there,” Sarros said. “That was zip-tied around the center pole,” he added, so it’s possible it couldn’t easily be taken. The entry flap to the tent is also zip-tied each night.

Sarros said the party was filing a police report.

"This is indicative of political discourse at the moment. It's unfortunate and it shouldn't happen. We urge the person who stole the items to return them and engage in more productive political activities." - Joe Hackler, @ILGOP spokesman.

To be clear, no one knows a motive yet.

A dispute arose last week over website URL’s in the 6th CD GOP primary, and Monday the plot thickened. First, Republican candidate Jeanne Ives posted accusations on her Facebook page that her primary opponent Evelyn Sanguinetti’s campaign had pulled a URL switch.

Evelyn Sanguinetti told Illinois Review her campaign wasn’t guilty of Ives’ accusation:

“I checked with all my staff, vendors, and anyone associated with my campaign and confirmed we do not own any websites with Jeanne Ives’ name. I do not know who owns that URL. Honestly, Jeanne really should have just called me to ask if I did this before spreading a lie about me. We are both Republicans and we are better than this pettiness,” Sanguinetti said.

Ives’ described the maneuver as “petty, immature and dishonest”

From Ives

It’s standard procedure to secure lots of URL variations on one’s name before announcing a candidacy, however.

  3. Amateur move by Ives. Locking down URLs is the first thing a campaign should do.

This happens all the time. This little stuff really gets under her skin. What a joke she is.

  4. Who cares who took someone’s sign. The important questions are, is the Pork Patio well stocked for tomorrow? Has Bob Vose laid in extra supplies of his corn dogs?

  5. “To be clear, no one knows a motive yet.”

I could believe some Trump-loving bozos might swipe the banner and the flag, but there’s no way any supporter grabs 20 yard signs.

Then again, it’s hard to believe that a Trump opponent would leave that life-sized cutout un-vandalized.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  6. Ives also accused Sanguinetti of not speaking out against Rauner signing HB 40 when Evelyn did so and had proof of doing so.

How does a person so delusional function on a day to day level?

  7. Shouldn’t Rich/CapitolFax noted that the Ives Facebook post pictured in this article was removed from her campaign’s Facebook page? I just checked and could not find that post from last week.

  8. May this nonsense in the 6th district Republican primary quickly blow over and keep this race on the issues, like this article quickly notes of both women:

  9. On an unrelated note a 4×8 raft was spotted on the pond in the fairgrounds with a couple of 4-H kids uaing a small sail and some rectangular oars.

  11. ==“To be clear, no one knows a motive yet.”==

It’s obviously a false flag operation by Greg Bishop and Fritz Pfister to fire up trump supporters ahead of republican day at the fair. Wake up, sheeple!

  12. I’d blame it on teenage 4H members, but no, because the life size president wouldn’t have been left behind!

  13. “A guy”, there is evidence the “URL-snagging” of URLs related to Ives began in mid July, right about the time of Ives’ entry into the race.

Several new DNS registrations were documented in late July, and an additional one in early August. Regrettably, who registered the URLs were not on the source used to discover them.

This information was shared with both campaigns in the 6th Republican primary late yesterday in order to help both campaigns get to the bottom of this.

  14. Is the fair free Sunday? website is confusing.

Free in the past but does not clearly say it is this year. And why is the other fair free and this one $10? silly.

  17. I dunno which will be better for Illinois Republicans;

Slip and Sue getting the nod and lose the General.

Ives winning only to lose in the General.

If you’re an insurance adjuster aiding personal injury cases, Slip and Sue out in March would be helpful.

  18. NoGifts - Please keep 4H out of this, even if you are just joking. 4H is a great organization that serves youth in every corner of this state from Chicago, Aurora and Naperville to Bloomington, Marion and Mattoon. It is more than just cows, sows and plows, it is everything from public speaking, culinary arts, community service, geology, conservation, intercultural exchange and robotics. 4H is a community of young people learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. It is not a political organization and individual members and their families will have a variety of opinions on political matters. So let’s please be careful about how we refer to these political storms in a teacup and not associate them with people or organizations if we don’t have all the facts yet.

  21. “It’s standard procedure to secure lots of URL variations on one’s name before announcing a candidacy, however.”

Which candidacy? Ives was first elected to the state House in 2012, right?

She should have locked up those URLs years ago.

  22. I read that blog reporting the story. I think it’s worth noting that if Ives’ people either never corrected the redirect from “ILGOP.com” or they lied about it.

I’m not sure why one’s campaign would think it’s a good idea to complain about redirecting from URLs when they’re also doing it.

Comment by Candy Dogood Tuesday, Aug 13, 19 @ 6:36 pm

  23. Poor Jeanne, lotsa problems. The other day she was interviewed on WLS by Ives-friendly hosts Lauren Cohn and Kristen McQueary. Asked what she learned from her race against Rauner, Ives only said she was outspent by Rauner: “He had so much more money for advertising to tell lies about me.”
Wrong lesson. The actual problem was that her campaign had too much money for advertising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZwKZf2jtHI .

  24. If she’s going to claim it, she had had well be able to prove it. Anyone with five minutes and $10 can register a domain name with the registrant hidden, and redirect traffic to any URL. The Ives camp could have just as easily done this themselves and blamed Sanguinetti. For that matter, it could be anyone outside the campaigns trying to stir up trouble, or think they are being helpful.
