* Sen. John Mulroe (D-Chicago) has been talking about this for a while now…

.@SenMulroe's twitter handle will soon be out of date. #Illinois Supreme Court announces that, per the recommendation of Justice Mary Jane Theis, it's appointing Mulroe, a Democrat, to be a Cook County Circuit Court Judge (10th subcircuit).

  1. Russ Stewart says the leading replacement contenders are 41st Ward Committeeman Tim Heneghan and Norwood Park Committeeman Frank Avino.

I’ve also heard that Rep Martwick (the 38th Ward Committeeman) is interested but that it probably won’t happen because 45th Ward Committeeman former Ald John Arena is looking for a gig with the City and Mayor Lightfoot does not want to see Martwick elevated

  2. The wrinkle though is that if Martwick had the votes to be elevated, he and Arena would have the weighted vote to pick Martwick’s successor, which would be John Arena if the deal were made.

  3. My guy Russ also says former MWRD Commissioner Marty Durkan of Local 150 is in the mix

  5. We need a woman in this seat. Woman are moving things in the GA and the last thing we need right now is a go along/get along person who has run and lost, run and lost.

  6. Durkan may be in the mix, but you can still only believe about 10% of what Russ says.

  7. Mulroe is a great guy and will be missed in the GA. I wish him all the best on the bench.

  8. He was AWOL in his district. Obviously he has other aspirations but he was a middling elected official at best.

  9. The progressive Mr Arena needs work. Will he stay progressive and vote for the best candidate or will he parlay his weighted vote to gameful employment?

  10. I wish him the best.

  11. It helps to have at least a few Judges who personally know the”give-and-take” and the challenges / limitations of the legislative process. Some of the best Judges I have dealt with are former Legislators.

  12. Mulroe voted for the unconstitutional SB1. He won’t be missed.
