* From Local 150’s Fight Back for a Better Tomorrow fund

* Script…

Bill Daley says it’s time to get real.

But who’s the real Bill Daley?

Daley was hand-picked by Bruce Rauner to co-chair his transition team, laying the framework for Rauner’s reckless policies.

And as Rauner drove Illinois billions into debt, Daley stood by and did nothing.

Now Daley’s the only candidate funded by Bruce Rauner’s biggest donor.

Daley even said he was “proud” to take 2 million dollars from Rauner’s billionaire Wall Street buddy.

And now we should trust Bill Daley to be different from Bruce Rauner?

Let’s get real.

…Adding… Daley campaign…

The following should be attributed to Jorge Neri, campaign manager:

“This week, the Better Government Association rated the claims made in this new ad as false. Bill Daley served under two Democrat presidents: as Chief of Staff for former President Barack Obama, and U.S. Commerce Secretary for former President Bill Clinton. He also served as campaign chairman for former Democratic Vice President Al Gore’s presidential campaign. Bill is proud to be a longtime Democrat and to suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

“Bill is the only person in the race with the ability and experience to ensure every Chicago neighborhood prospers. Special interest groups aligned with Susana Mendoza are scared and these groups have chosen to hide behind dark money to maintain their grip of perceived political influence.

“This dark money group, with suburban roots, has previously supported Republican candidates over Democrats like Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood. The fact that they want to tell the City of Chicago who to vote for is laughable.

“As mayor, Bill will be accountable to the people of Chicago.”

  1. All the more entertaining when followed by a Bill Daley ad on WGN.

Comment by OneMan Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:18 am

  2. The message is clear and to some audiences would be effective.

However, are there really Daley supporters who either don’t know, or if they do know, would be bothered by Daley’s connections to Rauner?

He’s the corporate candidate. It is what it is.

Comment by Gooner Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:21 am

  3. All it needs is a visual of Daley trying to crack open a lock box.

Comment by City Zen Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:22 am

  4. The Rauner connection is important to the discussion and critical to framing.

Like Willie Wilson, the Rauner connection is who they are now.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:22 am

  5. Great soundtrack. I am sincerely surprised how much traction Bill Daley has been getting.

Comment by Dan Johnson Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:25 am

  6. All the 150 anti-Daley ads have hit very well. They go right for the jugular and clamp down hard, mauling Daley’s regular-guy-from-the-neighborhood schtick.

Comment by wordslinger Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:25 am

  7. wonder when folks will notice the resolute $$$ ( more GovJunk/Dunkin fingerprints…very scary)

Comment by Annonin' Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:26 am

  8. Very effective. One man hit it. I had no idea Daley sounded like that. He does not sound mayoral….what ever that is, he doesn’t.

Comment by wondering Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:30 am

  9. This is a highly effective ad because Republicans and Bruce Rauner are highly unpopular in Chicago.

Comment by Steve Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:37 am

  10. It will be interesting to see if the Rauner association adheres with any real stickiness. The message is clear, but maybe more ham-handed than it needs to be; even for a political commercial. Some AA voters did in fact like Rauner in pockets of the city.

What it demonstrates more than anything is that 150 is seeing something growing for Daley. This isn’t a defensive type- insurance type ad. This is an offensive “take the dude down” before he gains one more yard type of ad. Interesting.

    Comment by A guy Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:38 am

  11. sounds like a pretty devastating ad, I wonder how much TV they are buying

Comment by intern Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:39 am

  12. ===Some AA voters did in fact like Rauner in pockets of the city.===

Show the voting areas, and vote totals to support this.

    Thanks.

  13. The ad is spot on. Daley is a big money guy. He has cashed in on his family name his whole life.

Comment by "Old Timer Dem" Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:44 am

  14. I just wish these ads started running at the beginning of January. They will need to double down if he makes the runoff.

Comment by Montrose Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:49 am

  15. 150 the most conservative union lecturing us about how to be more progressive ? ha ha - try again, boys.

Daley should slam this gun-loving group for being part of the flow of illegal guns from Indiana to Chicago. 150 loves the NRA and the NRA has blocked sensible gun safety measures.

Comment by west wing Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:56 am

  16. I’ve been seeing a lot of negative Daley ads lately. Maybe more so than positive ads from any of the candidates. Then again maybe negative ads just stick better in my head.

One thing is for sure though, this ad hits hard. Short, sweet, and to a really powerful point. One of the better negative ads I’ve seen in this election IMO.

    Comment by Chicago_Downstater Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 9:59 am

  17. @west wing, Local 150 is the largest single donor the the Democratic Party. Taint 150 money and see what happens.

  19. Peoples Republic of Oak Park - Sorry I struck a nerve. Your allegiance to the NRA and 150 are admirable. Usually progressives like to apply litmus tests on issues like guns, but with 150 it’s all situational. If you don’t like Daley, you love the 150 and its dark money.

Comment by West Wing Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 11:17 am

  20. @–west wing, Local 150 is the largest single donor the the Democratic Party. –

Sure about that? I thought I heard mention of a JB something-something…..

  21. If the 150 is against Daly, that might make me vote for him.

  22. ==If the 150 is against Daly, that might make me vote for him==

Don’t forget to lump AFSCME in there as well, which makes Billy much more palatable. Too bad Richie poisoned the well.

  23. nice comeback from the Daley campaign manager. “This dark money group, with suburban roots, has previously supported Republican candidates over Democrats like Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood. The fact that they want to tell the City of Chicago who to vote for is laughable.”

  27. Forget Willie Wilson’s pockets…makes me think of Ed Burke’s hats. Adventures in campaign giveaways. Money or head gear.

  28. The question at this point is who will make it to the run off against Daley? And do they have any chance of beating him?

    I doubt it.

  29. The ad is very effective because it is true.

I may be a mushroom here, but does anyone know who this suburban “Dark Money” group is?

  30. How about if we show the response ad to the 150 spot?

Comment by West Wing Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 1:32 pm

  31. “This dark money group, with suburban roots”

Local 150’s suburban roots are so deep that they sunk Joliet Road a mile up the road from their Countryside headquarters.

Comment by City Zen Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 1:45 pm

  32. Soccermom, still smitten even when bitten.

    Sling, not as much. lol

I don’t have any dog in this fight, but it sure is interesting to watch the constantly changing dynamics of all of this. Oddly, aside from here on CF, it’s not feeling like this very huge election is so close in everyday conversations.

    Comment by A guy Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 1:51 pm

  33. There’s a reason why the Daley campaign is crying about this ad - it’s true and it’s effective. And everyone this week is being reminded about the horror movie we lived in under Bruce Rauner and Bill played a supporting role in it. That fact cannot be denied. The reaction of his campaign is stunning - it’s like how dare the media or opponents or other orgs dare question him or his record. They’re entitled brats.

Comment by Shytown Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 3:52 pm

  34. –The question at this point is who will make it to the run off against Daley? And do they have any chance of beating him?–

Yeah, he’s a real runaway train at 13%.

The question is how did you arrive at a conclusions unsupported by any evidence at all?

Comment by wordslinger Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 4:43 pm

  35. @wordslinger- To clarify, single largest PAC, not candidate committee.

Comment by Peoples Republic of Oak Park Wednesday, Feb 20, 19 @ 5:13 pm

  36. This could sting in a tight race, if other media outlets pick up on it.
