  1. No caption, that’s just a perfect “comically bored” face JB is making there.

Also, this Super Bowl was a great advertisement for baseball.

  3. That game was so low-scoring that JB wouldn’t even buy me a drink.

  4. I sat through the super bowl and all I got was a glass of near beer.

  6. Well, the last five minutes or so of the game were pretty interesting. The ad for the NFL 100 years anniversary was wonderfully entertaining as everybody tried to pick out all the current and past players who were trashing the fancy banquet. That was pretty much it.

I’m a big fan of the way the NCGA got ticked off at that ad. LOL.

  12. That Caprara twitter is really good, especially during football season.

I waited for JB to buy me a drink all night too. Next time.

People were confused… Rams fans leaving after the 3rd quarter. You don’t know sports fans from LA… All LA sports fans arrive late and leave early from everything. It wasn’t this game.

  16. You’d think in a 13-3 game, a defensive player would have been named MVP. I would have given it to Dont’a Hightower or Stephen Gilmore.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 10:38 am

  17. Horrible game, terrible commercials, forgettable halftime performance. Easily the worst Super Bowl ever.

  18. As a former StL Rams fan and a hater of the Pats, I was hoping for a 3-2 final score. Oh well. beggars can’t be choosers. Can’t wait for Captain Marvel and End Game though.

Comment by Steve Rogers Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 10:40 am

  19. ==You’d think in a 13-3 game, a defensive player would have been named MVP. ==

There really wasn’t an individual standout defensive performance, though. It was low scoring because the offenses were just terrible, as was the play calling.

I would’ve given MVP to the punter.

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 10:43 am

  20. To the game, it was so compelling I pondered my GoT status having only seen the equivalence of… 2 1/2 episodes of the entire series.

Lots of soul searching, contemplation, weighing the binge factor…

  21. It looks like they both went heavily on the over.

  22. CBS should have been more nimble and added Gladys Knight at half time and post game …maybe tossing in some Pips too.

  23. After seeing Adam Levine’s tattoo collection, he seems to be overcompensating with it for the fact that his band plays safe, middle of the road, adult contemporary pop-rock.

  28. I love Boston. Can’t get enough, great town to visit.

    But… Bostonians;

    Celtics - 17 championships, last 2008
    Bruins - last cup, 2011
Red Sox - reigning World Series champs
    Pats - won Super Bowl

… enough with the NYC envy.

You can retire the chips on your shoulders

  29. I thought they were counting punts, not scores this year, although the Patriot placekicker nearly clanked two off the uprights.

I feel for Pritzker in this photo. Boring game. Boring half-time show. Boring announcing. Even (with the exception of a couple) boring ads.

  30. The Stella spot was a winner. Three pop culture icons switching up on their signature drinks. Very funny.

I’m surprised that Dos Equis didn’t have a longer non-compete-clause for the Most Interesting Man in the World. He was their face, forever.

And The Dude — do you go outside, sir, dressed like on Super Bowl Sunday looking for a beer spot job?

Seriously, those had to be The Dudeorino’s original clothes from the flick — they could not be replicated. I read once that Jeff Bridges just put on his own Malibu beach-bum wear.

Hightower for sure. As a former defensive player that game was perfect. Here’s a fantastic piece on him:

  32. As someone who had been a season ticket holder for both the Cardinals and the Rams I had very mixed feelings about the game yesterday. I despise the Patriots ( “Cheaters” ) as well as Stan Kroenke ( lying to his fans in St. Louis ). In fact yesterdays game was the first I have watched in at least 3 years.

I could really have cared less about who won the game, but eventually one team had to prevail.

  34. Just made the Bears loss all the more painful - can’t say they would have won (they lost the squeaker to NE earlier in season w/ a gimpy Mack), but they surely would have “belonged.”

Comment by lake county democrat Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 11:22 am

  35. My pick for MVP was Gilmore. Hightower would have been a great pick, too.

Maroon 5 is everything wrong with contemporary pop music. Levine is a tool. I wanted more Gladys Knight.

Comment by Independent Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 11:27 am

  36. I imagine the Pats haters don’t want to hear it, but that team is in the midst of one of the greatest runs in North American professional sports history.

In Belichick and Brady’s eighteen years, they’ve been to nine Super Bowls. Never had a losing record (worst was 9-7 in Brady’s second year).

And keep in mind, the NFL is designed to produce what Pete Rozelle called “parity.” The system is akin to golf handicaps, trying to make team records even.

Successful teams get low draft picks and a first-place schedule. Lousy teams get high draft picks and a last-place schedule.

All teams share equally in TV and gate revenue (socialism). All teams have the same spending floor and ceiling (wage and price controls). There’s a minimum salary and free agency (unions).

It’s truly an even playing field for all teams. If your team can’t compete, look to the GM and coaching staffs. They’re the variables in the equation.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 11:29 am

  37. The Rams played like a team that didn’t deserve to be there… and as a Saints fan, I’m here to tell you that they didn’t. I didn’t watch any of it out of disappointment about the NFC Championship, but I love that everything I’m hearing is that the game, the halftime show and even the commercials were subpar.

Hope there’s finally some real pressure on Roger Goodell.

Comment by Father Ted Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 11:33 am

  38. I fear the NFL overreacting to this terrible offensive game and changing the rules to make it even tougher for defenses. Next year they will make it a flag if you don’t let the receiver run a few steps before tackling them…oh, wait, that was a flag in yesterday’s game too.

  47. I was a little taken aback by Dylan selling the rights to his recording of “Blowing in the Wind” for a Bud spot about something-something brewed with wind power.

That used to be called selling out, but the ship sailed a long time ago. I think Neil Young still refuses to sell his songs for commercials. Anyone else?

  49. “I’d rather be hashing out progressive income tax rates with policy wonks.”

Well, at least the game provided three quarters worthy of muting between commercials.

Also, Anne Caprara’s football twitter feed is tons of fun.
