Just ran into @GovRauner at State Fair. I asked what he’s doing this weekend: told me he’s going to stay at the Quincy Veterans Home again for two days, one night. Gov was last there in the spring, and of course stayed for a week in January after WBEZ stories came out in December pic.twitter.com/yAiIZuYD7x

Timothy Miller should have the final word to the Rauner stunt.
We should not forget that Darlene Senger thoughts were to blame a combat wounded veteran, and no one thought to tell anyone on site for days or family members of residents the dangers.
Staying at the facility now? After already doing this stunt?
It’s about the politics. It’s not about the veterans, the victims, the families, and I’ll defer any further thoughts i have to Timothy Miller… to speak for himself to all those thoughts.

Mr. Miller is not going to let him off on this. Nor should he. He lost a father to political ineptitude. This is all so shameful.

In fairness to Rauner, he doesn’t purchase the steer for his personal consumption. His purchase is a charitable contribution that benefits a number of agricultural organizations and he donates the steer to the University of Illinois.

And I fail to see how another stay at Quincy can be seen by anyone with half a brain as anything but a publicity stunt. If JB’s doesn’t jump on this stunt, then they all ought to be fired.

Speaking strictly to the politics of this, I think it’s a mistake for Rauner. His first stay was wise, now he’s just helping keep the story alive.

Rauner doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt, but I’m not going to knock him for going to Quincy.
A competent governor who gave a hoot would be doing that, often, to see what the heck is going on. Rauner might be just playing one on TV, but I’d be ripping him if he didn’t go there. Can’t have it both ways.

I get this. Important to understand the exercise, and being honest to the moment.
My take to this framing…
It’s difficult for me to look at the responses outside what Rauner hoped to keep under wraps and how, as a governor, there seemed to be this self-preservation strand leading what should’ve been a clearer and much more empathetic charge to do what was right for the veterans, the residents, the workers, and the families.
Yes, I’d be as hard if not harder had Rauner side-stepped visiting the facility. That I know and readily admit.
The lack of empathy that riddles this Administration is what puts me in a position of “d$&@ed if he does, d$&@ed if he doesn’t”… I know I’d feel different if these 3+ years this governor showed empathy. I hadn’t seen that. So, I am responding off that.

Agreed, the Quincy stay is another publicity stunt.
I read Mr. Miller’s tweets last night. Very sad, and glad that he won’t vote for this governor again.
This is Bruce Rauner, the guy who owned and fatally mismanaged nursing homes. The people who suffered and died are so distant from corporate executive worlds. They are written off as losses. That’s why the “regular guy” costumes are so insulting.

I agree with Wordslinger to a point. Absolutely he should go there, spend time with the residents, talk to staff and administration. Where it tips into publicity stunt is him staying at Quincy. I’m sure that part of their rationale is that if he didn’t stay there, folks would claim he is afraid to, but it just feels weird and shallow.

Thank you Timothy Mueller for your fathers service and for your passionate words to our failed Governor.
Many of us who have not lost loved ones or family members due to the incompetence of this Administration have suffered in other ways. We will not let this issue go away and will never be silenced when we see these shameful PR stunts.

This is, as willy says, restaurant quality.
Mr. Miller’s ongoing criticism of Rauner administration’s response to the legionnaire’s outbreak is a necessary reminder of what’s at stake in all this. When government fails, humans suffer.

From pure political standpoint, he should shut up about where he’s going( even if asked a general question). He’s versatile with the truth so this should be easy. When he’s called out about not saying where he’s going or been or ignoring Vets, then he can say ‘Quincy’. Then play ‘misunderstood victim’

Mr. Miller’s comments come from a sensitive and raw place of deep hurt. I truly get that and he has my utmost sympathy.
He’d be better served leaving the cynicism of the cow out of this. It diminishes his otherwise heartfelt argument.
I’m glad the Governor is going back to Quincy. Whether he wins or loses in November, he’s got a chance to get this one straightened out.

No snark whatsoever. I don’t begrudge him anything he feels or says. My observation is that he might not say them together. The cow line distracts from the very point all of you are trying to make.

Guy, if Rauner didn’t do a lot of his talking with his checkbook, others here might be more inclined to be neutral on the “Cow question.”
I tend to agree with Montrose’s take. Oversight is important, but I don’t think you need to check in to complete a good status review of water system fixes. It’s not like he doesn’t have a place to rack out. Guess he’s done with the Fair, though.

So utterly true. And I’m not. What I am doing is sharing “how I hear them”.
One thing is sad and tragically serious. The other thing is a superfluous thought that has absolutely nothing to do with the terrible tragedy.
For however many times it takes, my sympathy is very much with Mr. Miller.

Instead of going to the Quincy Home, perhaps the Governor should have a presser at the unfinished veterans’ home on Oak Park Ave. in Chicago. I drove by it several weeks ago, with no work in progress, although it broke ground in 2014.
