We submitted our daughter Maya in the Illinois State Fair “Cutest baby” contest.

We’re proud to say the judges decided she was the 2nd cutest… boy. pic.twitter.com/dUuRnTXRz0

*** UPDATE *** This is really getting ridiculous…

Also, today's press release on the Sale of Champions says it's going to be the "marquis event of Agriculture Day."

Which I guess is kind of like the marquee event, only with fewer aristocratic titles.

  1. While we are at it…

Those are not milkshakes in the dairy building, that is soft-serve ice cream.

  2. I’d say the Rauner Crew and appointees are mailing it in but that would be to disparaging to people who actually… mail it in.

The Rauners, the Crew, those who see things honestly, they’re tired, they’re “done”, they seem to want this over?

Is that how you get such gross negligence?

How can the obvious errors, for example “every day is Friday” be glossed over as just simple errors?

Is the fair for the “simple folk” Rauner mocks, so why take it seriously?

  3. Somewhere ck is laughing at all of this.

Comment by Dance Band on the Titanic Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 9:54 am

  4. Given Raunerworld failures, it could have been worse. They could have made every day Monday.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 9:56 am

  5. Clearly, the BTIA(TM) fair squad has a secret beer tent they are working out of. Maybe moonshine tent.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 10:14 am

  6. If it’s this bad in the Governor’s back yard what can we expect at the DuQuoin State Fair…oh my!

    Comment by Bulbous1 Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 10:15 am

  7. Looks like the BTIA has gotten a head start on the whole legal weed thingy.

Comment by Gruntled University Employee Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 10:17 am

  8. @Dance Band on the Titanic-she is laughing out loud.

    Comment by Flynn's Mom Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 10:24 am

  9. Dance Band, somewhere a lot of Rauner alums are laughing at this.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 10:25 am

  10. It’s precisely because of this kind of attention to detail, excellent planning and keen eye on the ball that makes it no surprise they’ve raised tens of dollars from corporate partners to rebuild the fairgrounds. Yessir, this is how a businessman governs. The sky’s the limit with a team like this.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 10:37 am

  11. I hoped there would be misspellings and unforced staff errors, and I hope that my staff will be prosecuted. /s fakebrucerauner

Comment by Columbo Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 11:13 am

  12. These explain a . lot. Here I thought they were mean and uncaring and in fact they are simply incompetent.

Comment by JS Mill Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 11:13 am

  13. Mailing it in.
Looks like a group of folks more concerned about sending out Careerbuilder resume’s than actually running an office.

Comment by DuPage Bard Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 11:19 am

  14. So presumably the State Fair is where Rauner could exert almost total control, if he wanted to, which exactly what he wants from state government. And yet..

Comment by Albany Park Patriot Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 11:22 am

  15. And at the Tribune Editorial Board, Kristen McQueary must be wishing for the State Fair to be leveled by its own Hurricane Katrina.

Comment by JoanP Monday, Aug 13, 18 @ 2:27 pm

  20. “Hello, John Slayton? How much do you think you could raise in the next 12 hours to get us a proofreader for the Fair?”

  24. When you don’t care about institutional memory and just parachute-in inexperienced folks… you get this. I can’t recall quite this many mistakes in a fair under Becky Doyle, do you?
