Derrick Rose had surgery Friday morning to repair the torn medial meniscus in his right knee. The Bulls said the surgery went well and Rose walked out after the procedure.
Bulls GM Gar Forman said Rose is expected to return in four to six weeks. […]
Unlike his previous two surgeries, Rose was “full weight-bearing” after this one, meaning rehab will begin Saturday.
Many folks thought he was gone forever after his latest injury.

Yes, well, what do Derrick’s people say about his return? IIRC, they encouraged him to take his time returning from a previous injury.
Patrick Kane being out 12 weeks is really bad for the Hawks, unless it’s a salary cap dodge. Then it might be brilliant.

Management is drawing a line in the sand. This time you are going by OUR doctor’s orders, OUR timeline. If not public opinion (not to mention Adidas relationship) may be irreparably harmed.

Everyone knows Rose is a cannon. The question is whether he’s a glass cannon that will just keep getting broken ad nauseum.

Based on the initial reports, I was hoping it wouldn’t be that long. Hopefully it actually works out…the postseason was pretty disappointing last season. I loved last year’s defensive intensity, but having Rose on the court adds another level of excitement to the game.

Folks were calling Rose “Chicago’s next Sayers” but technology caught up, and even Sayers’ injury would have been less debilitating now because the science finally caught up.
Wish him the best, few things are more gut-wrenching then talent taken and never realized due to injury.

Rose will never be the same Rose, but he might be the Gronkowski of the Bulls. He appears to have the stamina and determination to keep coming back. I hope he does.
Sayers was robbed by inferior medical care. Very sad.

Am I a heretic for thinking Derrick Rose should not be pressured to play NBA basketball until his knees are destroyed?
At what point does he retire rather than continue to wear down his body?

hopeful that this good news will actually pan out. and feel absolutely awful for him. medical pain and so much pressure.
Tuesday night was so bizarre. watching the tv jumping from Kane to Rose, to runoff land in Chicago. lots and lots of pain.

That one would really be up to him…he doesn’t have to work another day in his life at this point, and he does have a wonderful family to keep him occupied when/if he decided to retire early.

Seems selfish to expect these modern day gladiators to give up their prospects of a healthy future for our entertainment.
He was not 100% after his last two surgeries, the latest procedure will erode his durability just a bit more. Management must restructure the team to rely less on him and be scuessful.

He can retire tomorrow if he wanted to. Don’t make him a victim of his own success (or lack thereof).

I think the Sayers analogy is, sadly, apt. Burned bright, but not long.
I don’t think we’re ever again going to see the fearless Derrick who could dominate with reckless abandon. Only Lebron could defend him one on one. Three cuts on the knee at 26. Crying shame.
The Kane injury might have shook the Hawks out of their recent blahs. Shaw and Bickell put the wood to the Panthers last night.
The Hawks still have enough to compete until Kane gets back late, but the Western Conference is loaded. Anyone could win it.
Put it this way, if the playoffs started today, Nashville, the No.1 seed, would play the No. 8, the Kings. What a reward for the best record, lol.
If you’re looking for some good sports news (we could use some), check out the Oak Park River Forest wrestlers as they go for their second straight state title this weekend in Bloomington.
They are a load top to bottom, and the No. 1 ranked high school wrestling team in the United States of America.
Individual Sox games went on sale today, too, if you want to daydream about a hot July afternoon at Cominskey.

As much as I would like Rose to succeed, I’m not optimistic. His game is built on speed, strength and overall athleticism. He’s betting that he superior physically to the guy who is guarding him. When you start stacking up the surgeries, the physical advantage is lost.

Carl, the only real pressure on Derrick to keep playing is the $41.5 million left on his Bulls contract after this year.
That’s a lot of life-changing money for a kid from Englewood, and generations of his peeps, to limp away from.

Seems logical, but very few athletes do this (Barry Sanders was a notable exception).

Barry, who “acted like he’d been there before” every time he scored.
Other notables who retired in their prime…Jim Brown…Bobby Orr…Sandy Koufax…Bobby Jones (the golfer)…Bjorn Borg.
And let’s not forget the Bulls’ own Michael Jordan, who retired for a while to chase a boyhood dream of playing baseball, going from the most celebrated basketball player ever to just another minor league player.

I like to think he was serving a very quiet suspension for his gambling addiction, but I don’t have any proof of that, just like I can’t prove the serious cut that almost took his finger off wasn’t a self-inflicted accident with a cigar cutter.
MJ had a serious gambling problem. I hope it’s under control now.

Rose has the either the worst knees for bball or the most durable to come back from injury. I think it’s that he simply has cuts so ferocious his knees can’t cope with them.
