  1. Looks nice, but I can’t go. As a Cubs fan, I’ll probably get lost in the maze for 106 years.

  2. Wait Til’ Next Year!

Not much to say. I spent the evening in the company of two rabid Sox fans who were bemoaning the team’s decline, low attendance and the likelihood that the Cubs are going to post a better record for 2014. One added that the Cubs farm system is about to start producing good players for the big league roster.

  3. Excited to see Castro, Mendy, Rizzo, Baez, and Soler on the same lineup card this weekend in StL.

  4. In the next 3 Days, Cubs-Cardinals go 4 games, with the twin-bill on Saturday.

It will be fun to see some if these young Cubs play against the Cards in a grinding 4 games.

  5. An open baseball thread this year means one thing-What did everyone think of the Bears last night?

    Comment by Lord Stanley's Cup Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:48 am

  6. What a waste of perfectly good corn.

Comment by phocion Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:48 am

  7. Very disappointed in Rick Hahn. He should have made some moves in July. Even if somebody would have given you nothing for Dunn but to pay his remaining salary, you would be better off. And Alexi isn’t going to gain you any value. For the first time in a long while, the Cubs future is looking better than the Sox.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:50 am

  8. Will MLB want their licensing cut from this maze?

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:52 am

  9. Cool. I love this state! People don’t say it enough. It is a cool state. From top to bottom, the diversity of the people, land.

Comment by yo Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:56 am

  10. Cards need to make that final push to overtake the Brewers with Yadi coming back today. I fear, however, that the lineup doesn’t have enough pop right now to go very far this year.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:57 am

  11. I look forward to the end of the Adam Dunn error on the south side. Great job, Kenny Williams! #SMH

  12. Can pro baseball last another hundred years with 9 inning games?

Comment by Diogenes in DuPage Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:58 am

  13. Right now, I am most interested in seeing how the race between Milwaukee and St. Louis winds up. Chicago could play the role of the spoiler in this division race. Really amazed that the Brewers have held the lead for so long with their roster.

Comment by Under Further Review Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:59 am

  14. Wait til all of the Cub prospects can drink legally then we will be in the playoffs.

Comment by Obamas Puppy Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 9:59 am

  15. Very cool!

BTW, Cubbie fans, Yadi is returning this weekend!!

Comment by Wally Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:01 am

  16. So this farmer couldn’t do the Old English SOX logo?
Hate to admit it but the Cubs will be a .500 team next year, and division champs in 2016. The Sox……………..

Comment by Bogey Golfer Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:09 am

  17. @Diogenes:

You hit the nail on the head. Yesterday, we discussed the decline in baseball generally and the single biggest complaint is the length of games. Nine innings for a regulation game is not the problem. The practice of MLB and television turning every inning break into an intermission is the culprit. When I began watching baseball, it was customary for a complete game to be played from start to finish in about two hours and fifteen minutes. Now, games are ordinarily three hours plus.

Comment by Under Further Review Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:11 am

  18. Bogey, you may want to consider the fact the Brewers, Cards and Pirates are in the division.

Comment by Wally Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:11 am

  19. I agree with Chris Maley.

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:12 am

  20. It was heartening to see Chicago embrace the Jackie Robinson West club.

It was even more amazing to see young black men from the South Side shown in a positive light on local TV. Not every kid is a gangbanger. In fact, the great majority are not.

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:16 am

  21. Word is dead on. Great for those young guys and great for the city!

Comment by Wally Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:21 am

  22. “Can pro baseball last another hundred years with 9 inning games?” At the rate the game is going in 100 years, a 9 inning game will take about a hundred years to play. C’mon, throw the ball already!

Comment by Skeptic Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:22 am

  23. Is it true Hawk Harrelson might do fewer games next year? If so, that’s got to be the best news on the south side in a long, long time.

    #hawkputsmetosleep

    Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 10:25 am

  24. Cub fans: your ownership is scamming you: Joe Ricketts basically admitted that their plan is to play for simply being in contention for a wild card. Other teams in are ahead of you in the “let’s get a bunch of prospects” plan (especially Pittsburgh - their minor league is almost as goods as the Cubs’ and their major leaguers are already performing) and if you manage to slip into the playoffs you’ll have the Dodgers, Nats, Giants and Mets (who also are loaded in the minors and are willing to spend like the Dodgers).

47th Ward - I think Hawk’s great - do a little DX’ing or check out MLB Audio (I know, Hawk is tv, but I only splurge for MLB Audio, not TV) and you won’t just be napping, you’ll be in a coma!

Sox are going to make another big leap next year when they can spread Dunn’s money around, but I’m worried about Eaton (fragile) and Davidson (Addison Reed should bring back a starter - I’m all for not rushing a prospect but…)

What the heck happened to the Blue Jays? With them out, I’m rooting for the Brewers - let the Cub fans take solace in knowing their obnoxious “Cubs Nation takes over every other ballpark” ways helped to put even more roadblocks in their way.

  25. “Is it true Hawk Harrelson might do fewer games next year? If so, that’s got to be the best news on the south side in a long, long time.”

I like the Hawk. He is 100 times more entertaining than the two bores that the Cubs have on. My God, they are horrible. They should find another career doing audio books to cure insomnia.

By the way, for all of the hype that the Cubs prospects have gotten so far, we haven’t even seen the best of them yet. Kris Bryant has 43 homers so far in AAA this year. If he doesn’t start next season with the big league club, the Cubs aren’t serious about winning.

  26. I have tickets for Saturday and Sunday at Busch. Gonna be a good weekend.

  27. It would be pretty hard to do a Cubs maze considering this farm is on the far south side.

I would have liked to see a better season, considering Konerko will retire.

    Comment by Person 8 Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 11:47 am

  33. blub. love the Sox, although this season is far from a mazing.

love that they gave the 2005 World Series trophy to the Jackie Robinson West kids to use at their rally, though not surprising since about 6 of those kids are on the travel team the Sox sponsor. still, very fun and also fun watching Harold Baines and Mr. Reinsdorf greet them and the fireworks going off at the Cell. and, they lent Hawk for the rally MC! Plus gotta give Kenny Williams props on his speech at the rally….he was passionate!

Hey Cub fans….that’s 2 national trophies on the South side in the last 9 years. Plus, when you last won the World Series, you played south of Madison, near west side.

Comment by Amalia Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 11:49 am

  34. Goodness gracious, Chicago White Sox! Why are you falling apart here at the end of the season! At least you ended your 7-game slide. And now we have the Scrubs nippin’ at our heels, close to tying our record to date. But for Abreau and some other highlights, this season is becoming quickly forgettable. #pivotplease #jrwwhereare you

  35. 47th Ward, comments like that could imperil your Golden Horseshoe award from last year. We’ve never had to revoke one in the past, but…

    Just sayin…

    lol

Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:11 pm

  36. Lol Rich, but just so you know, I’ve already spent the prize money that came with the Golden Horseshoe, so good luck getting that back.

    Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:20 pm

  37. If it weren’t for Jose Abreu, Chris Sale and occasionally Adam Eaton my White Sox would be unwatchable this year. Bring on the Bears!

Comment by Stones Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:31 pm

  38. Cubs fan here, but going to be taking advantage of cheap Sox tickets and heading on over to the game versus the Tigers on Sunday. Been a solid two years since I was last at Comiskey, so looking forward to it.

With how expensive Cubs (and Hawks) tickets are, really gotta take advantage of the Sox just for my love if the game, even if I’m just neutral regarding who wins.

Comment by TJ Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:36 pm

  39. –With how expensive Cubs (and Hawks) tickets–

Been to stubhub? Lot of people holding on to their season tickets who don’t go very much.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 1:36 pm

  41. - AA -, you know it! Great way to make up some ground on the Cards with a 4 game sweep.

Should be a great 4 games.

  42. I’m going to “google” great. I understood it to mean something else entirely. lol

  43. It won’t matter for you - A Guy… -,

You should be in the precincts this weekend, maybe a parade.

Cubs are trying to showcase some younger players, Cards are a good team to measure.

Baseball/City rivalries are great. Shame you can’t see something like that, it’s fun to root for teams.
